China Getting Its Pandas Back

This fall, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) will bid farewell to three of its most beloved residents: giant pandas Tian Tian, Mei Xiang and Xiao Qi Ji. Under an agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA), which owns the animals, as well as the vast majority of pandas held in captivity, the trio must return to China by December 7. Their departure will leave the nation’s capital without pandas for the first time in 23 years. More
