15 Comments on Chuck Taylor’s getting their first update in 98 years

  1. I can’t wear the darned things since I have flat feet and the Chuck Taylors don’t have any arch support and kill my feet if I wear them. And besides I outgrew them well over 40 years ago. And one other thing don’t ever wear them while playing football outside when it’s snowing and below zero like when I was 16 and didn’t know better.

  2. In the 1960’s, it was an annual ritual to visit the Converse factory in Malden, Mass. We bought new Chuck Taylors (irregulars from the outlet store), then threw our old ones over the power lines.

About a year ago I bought a pair. Flimsy materials and zero support. (Of course I have a lot more to support than 50 years ago.)

  3. I made a pair of custom Chucks at their site and put my name on them. Every time I go to my 100 year old doctor he says how cool they are so you’re never too old. The new Chucks will be way more comfortable.

  4. Converse is one of the companies who contributes directly to Planned Parenthood. I’ve taken every Converse/Chuck Taylor in the house, and thrown them in garbage.

  5. Keds. I wore Keds as a kid. White hi-top Keds with the rubber seal on the side. After you washed them a buncha times the seal would start to disintegrate and you yanked them off leaving a white circle on the side.

  6. Heh. My daughter wanted a pair of Converse a few years ago. I almost puked at the price (around $50). I told her that when I was a kid, the poor kids wore Converse and everyone else wore Nike (which were on sale for $39.99). Didn’t work. She still has them, though, and still likes them, so there’s that.

  7. I bought two pair of the final run of Chucks made in the USA (low tops and hi tops). Won’t buy the foreign shit they’re selling now no matter how much better they may be.
