Clippy hasn’t had an easy life. Microsoft’s iconic but polarizing virtual assistant first appeared in Windows 97 as a small paperclip to help Microsoft Office users. It was given the boot by Office 2007.
Earlier this year, it resurfaced for one day as an animated sticker in Microsoft Teams before the company shut that down.
Now, ahead of World Emoji Day on Saturday, Microsoft is announcing plans to replace its standard paperclip emoji with an image of big-eyed, happy helper Clippy. The move is part of a broader refresh of 1,800 emojis across all Microsoft apps and services, which will roll out later this year. More
Microsoft helping humanity.
That thing and the cat used to annoy the F*** out of me and I always disabled it. So they are bringing it back because the low IQ easily entertained millennials etc. will love it? First thing they’ll say is why isn’t it LBGT friendly.
He’s been repurposed as Microsoft’s Spying-On-The-Masses mascot.
MS is just adding more crap to a Mt. Everest of crap.
MS irritates me every day. Fix your stuff, MS.
CLIPPY is like JoeTato. He’s been around for ever, isn’t good for much, and won’t retire when it’s obvious he needs to.
He’s probably the only one at MS that knows what he’s doing!
Like to see them bring back kill Roy was here!
(Not sure they ever used him)
Sorry Anon was me Anniegirl. Kill Roy was usually scattered all over the Drasfting rooms back in the day.
Gee, maybe they’ll bring back that other ever-popular ’emoji’ the Blue Screen of Death too!
What? where’s the spell check thingy?
There’s a sucker born every minute all you need is a shinny gimmick to reel them in.
I now feel complete.
Tim-
Ya know why MS stops support for their OS: Because they finally fixed it!
Maybe they can make a companion one for Kamala Harris, calling it “Slutty”.
