Close, but no cigar

Trump is the grand prize. They are trying. This is about as close as they’ve gotten so far.

CNBC-

An advisor to President Donald Trump‘s campaign pleaded guilty on Oct. 5 to lying to FBI agents about when he met with Russian nationals to get “dirt” on Hillary Clinton, according to court filings released Monday.

The documents revealed that George Papadopoulos was arrested on July 27 upon arrival at Dulles International Airport from an undisclosed location.

According to the documents, shortly after Papadopoulos learned he would become a foreign policy advisor to the Trump campaign, he met in March 2016 with a Russian professor who claimed to have “dirt” on Clinton. Investigators say Papadopoulos had told them he met with the professor before he learned of his role in the campaign.

Ten days later, Papadopoulos met with a female Russian national who was introduced to him as a niece of Russian President Vladimir Putin with ties to senior Kremlin officials, investigators said.

Papadopoulos later learned, however, that the woman was in fact not related to Putin.

He told investigators that his correspondence with the woman was superficial when in fact the purpose of the contacts was to set up a meeting between Russian leaders and the Trump campaign, the court filings said.

The filings say Papadopoulos is cooperating with the U.S. government in its ongoing investigation of Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 election.

Papadopoulos’ attorneys declined to comment on the case.

The meeting wasn’t illegal. The lying about it was.

  1. Watch this explode on the dems. Manafort – according to Tucker Carlson’s source – was working closely with the Podestas to ingratiate Russia with the Obama Admin and the Clintons. This was during the time that the FBI (Mueller/Comey) was investigating Russia for money laundering and racketeering as well as trying to infiltrate Hillary’s inner circle.

It coincides with the period of time that the Clinton’s pay for play Uranium 1 deal took place for which Podesta was also awarded $35 million and a seat on the board of Joules – an American subsidiary of a Russian company. Podesta did not disclose that payment and, in fact, later put the shares in his daughter’s name on disclosure forms.

Then there’s Skolkovo which hasn’t gotten much play but where Silicon Valley’s biggest Hillary contributors got to sell prohibited high tech information over objections by the Pentagon.

Can’t wait to hear what the ungagged FBI informant has to say —that Manafort can corroborate.

By the way, Tony Podesta stepped down from the lobbying firm he founded today.

  2. Well, they had to have something sort of resembling contact between Russia and Trump today. Manafort is a big whopping dud on that front. Papadopoulos pleaded guilty weeks ago, by the way, but they saved the backup squirrel announcement for today, in case they needed it. Turns out they did, and watching the sad media swim to the Papadopoulos lifeboat is amusing.

  3. This begs the question, Why wasn’t a grand jury impaneled for one of the worst breaches of National security, government corruption and obstruction of justice?
Hillary’s private server, emails, incompetence and corruption far outweighs lying in an interview (which I’m sure she did too).

The FBI picking low hanging fruit while the Clinton elite are untouchable.

  4. There is so much low hanging fruit it is rotting on the tree before it can be picked. And to quote Trirdtwin, “Sessions announces major crackdown on interstate highway litterbugs”. That’s funny!

  5. Doesn’t matter one way or another. More bread and circuses. No person with half a brain that has watched sociopolitical events in the USA for any length of time could possibly believe that the PTB would allow their most powerful members to come to harm. Just more of the drip, drip, drip from the media.

  6. If we were to charge every Democrat in Washington with exactly the same charges that they’re throwing around here — lying to some government official about some damn thing or other — there would no longer be a Democrat party

  7. Mueller now has a rat in the Trump house. P said his contacts with Russians happened after he joined the campaign. Now, every meeting, call, and email will be traced, and all contacts interviewed. The Target is Trump and always has been. Trump will be deposed and if his statements about anything differ from testimony by others, that will be all Mueller needs to end Trump’s Presidency. He won’t even have to indict. The media will do it for him.
