  1. The idea of single payer is literally ‘the government will take care of me.’ Do they even understand that the government is people? Self-interested people? It cannot work, for that reason. Of course if they think, like Hillary, that 1984 was about the problem of people not trusting government the way they should…

  2. Reading the comments on the CNN site is both entertaining and disheartening. I’m certain Lenin never imagined there could be so many “useful idiots” eager to enslave themselves to the state. Too bad these morons can’t experience the Godless communism they so badly desire without destroying the rest of us. Can you say gulag comrade?

  3. Why single payer will fail.

    1. It’s not free. In fact, it’s the opposite of free – it’s very, very expensive. Governments have no incentive to control costs, and politicians have every incentive to reward their friends and supporters with lucrative contracts. When there is no bottom line, things become very expensive.

    2. It’s a bureaucracy. Bureaucrats are not evil – I have had pleasant experiences with the vast majority of them – but they work by the numbers and don’t answer to you, the consumer. If you don’t like the wait times, tough luck because you really can’t go anywhere else. If you want a reminder of how bureaucracies work, renew your registration in person at the DMV or, even worse, try to get something done at a social security office. Pack a lunch.

    3. There is no incentive to innovate. Why innovate when your customers have no alternative?

    4. Poor people get screwed. People with money can swing deals or find pay as you go doctors, but poor people are stuck with the system. Sure, the medical system is free, and we will write that on your tombstone.

    5. It will be a regulatory nightmare. The only work product of many middle and upper management bureaucrats is regulation regardless of whether or not regulation is needed. But like the Geico commercials say, bureaucrats regulate because that’s what they do.
