Colbert presses Elizabeth Warren over taxes on the middle class

WaEx:

Stephen Colbert pushed Elizabeth Warren to specifically answer whether her plan for “Medicare for All” would raise taxes on the middle class.

Warren has shied away from answering numerous questions about whether middle-class taxes would go up under her administration, and Colbert pressed her on the matter Tuesday during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“You keep being asked in the debates — how are you going to pay for it? Are you going to raise the middle-class taxes?” he said.

“Right,” the senator from Massachusetts responded.

“How are you going to pay for it? Are you going to raise the middle-class taxes?” Colbert himself asked Warren to laughter.

Warren then said that the wealthiest Americans and big corporations would see their “costs” go up and that middle-class families would see their “costs” go down.

“But will their taxes go up?” Colbert asked, interrupting the senator as she began to answer.

“But here’s the thing,” the comedian said. “I’ve listened to these answers a few times before, and I just want to make a parallel suggestion for you about how you might defend the taxes that perhaps you’re not mentioning in your sentence.” more here

  1. Expecting a straightforward and honest answer from someone who has built their life on a lie -of being a Native American- is just a waste of the time and effort it took to ask the question.

  2. they didn’t mention that obama care added tons of paperwork, some doctors see patients with a person designated to check off boxes on a lap top; premiums and deductibles and co-pays went through the roof; visits to specialists were restricted, primary care physicians had tons of paper work for referrals on top of everything else, one of my drugs went from a pittance to over $700 with obamacare and I was already paying a record amount in premiums and on and on

Obamacare ruined our health care system, that is a fact

Don’t get me started oh geez too late.

  3. I really don’t understand their unwillingness to respond. Their entire point is that Medicare For All will be more efficient than the current healthcare system, so increased taxes will more than be offset by reduced medical costs.
Of course that isn’t true, government-run healthcare cannot possibly be run more efficiently than free-enterprise healthcare, but that is their reasoning for why we should want it. I think that is what Colbert was trying to say.

Or as Thomas Sowell put it: “It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it.”
