A student at Connecticut’s Sacred Heart University is now on the other side of accusations of wrongdoing after police charged her with filing a false report of rape against two college football players.
In 2016, student Nikki Yovino, 18, told police in Bridgeport, Connecticut, that she was raped in the bathroom of a house where a party was raging. Afterward, Yovino accused two members of the school’s football team of repeatedly raping her that night, the Connecticut Post reported.
In short order, both football players were removed from the team, lost their scholarships, and were kicked out of school over the accusations.
Now police are saying the players are innocent because Yovino recanted her rape accusation after police discovered inconsistencies in her testimony. Police also found at least one witness who said he heard Yovino talking about how she wanted to have sex with the football players.

Here’s how sexual harassment and rape cases work. The man is always guilty until proven innocent . The woman always receives the benefit of doubt. Unless the alleged assailant is named William Jefferson Clinton.
What’s the penalty for “lying”? Wouldn’t perjury or filing a false police report be more appropriate?
The FBI investigated the allegations. They have determined that Nikki Yovino did not show criminal intent, she was just careless with her choice of words. The only people harmed were the two male sexist football players. No harm, No foul.
Those two men should sue the shiznet out of the school. This is why colleges should not be involved in criminal matters.
“…removed from the team, lost their scholarships, and were kicked out of school.” What happens to them? Do they get restitution? Are they back at the school? On the team? Scholarships renewed? How about damages?
Sadly I bet they’re screwed.
These two football players should at least be given the same degrees the university gives to star athletes who never attend class.
Usually rape occurs when you are lying.

These rape hoax stories follow such a now-familiar template, it’s become a steady stream of identical fake accusations.
Sadly there’s a whole chick-TV genre out there which encourages this by glamorizing the lying and attention-seeking.
Shows like “Pretty Little Liars” have now spawned a whole genre.
I hope these 2 players sue the school and the administrators bigly.
Trump’s DoE needs to reverse all the Obama EPs on this and dispel the “rape culture ” BS.
Like no-fault insurance, she should be culpable since she was attending the ‘party’.
Or she should have stayed in her safe space that night.
If I was accused of this bullshit, I would immediately demand a polygraph test, with the stipulation that the accuser has to take a polygraph too and abide by the results
Duke lacrosse victims fought for years for justice.
BTW, a few years ago the accuser in that case was found guilty of second degree murder, stabbed her boyfriend, sentenced to 14 years.
I suggest that it would be appropriate that anyone who falsely and deliberately accuses another person of a crime should face the same sentence upon conviction that the falsely accused would have faced.
In Connecticut, sexual assault 1st degree has a mandatory minimum prison term of two years (or more depending on the conduct and victim’s age).
Nikki should get locked up for two years. And that’s not even considering what she should be liable for in the way of restitution for the two she accused of rape.
