Until Monday, Angel Suarez was known around the racetrack as the horse-whispering whiz kid.

Just 21, the quiet jockey based at Parx Racing won so many races – and millions of dollars – two years ago that he drew national notice as one of the sport’s top apprentices. That he’d come late to racing made his success even more astounding.

“He had no racing background,” his former agent, Donna Servis, told the Daily Racing Form in 2013. “He woke up one day, told his mom he wanted to be a jockey, and she said, ‘What?’ He was very smart in school, and she thought he’d be a doctor. It’s a Cinderella story, except it’s all true.”

But the fairy tale came to a bloody, bizarre end Sunday night in a blizzard of glass and gunfire. Bensalem police say Suarez climbed onto a second-floor deck at the Franklin Commons Apartments on Bobolink Drive about 8:35 p.m., where he masturbated until a woman inside discovered him and called 9-1-1.

As the woman ran to a neighbor’s apartment, Suarez busted through her sliding glass door, fled outside again by diving out her second-floor bedroom window and then broke into another nearby apartment, where he assaulted two people, said Lt. William McVey of Bensalem Police.

One resident grabbed his legally registered gun and shot Suarez in the chest and abdomen. Even then, Suarez didn’t stop struggling until police subdued him, McVey said.

He remains in critical condition at Aria Health’s Torresdale campus

  1. This is acceptable behavior in some places… he must be a newcomer to our country and we need to understand his ways. We need to be diverse and tolerant… we must not shoot perverted criminals who just want to visit and learn our ways.

I wanna be the Republican nominee, I’m a conservative. Karl Rove told me that I was and John McCain backed him up on that

  2. Yannuzzi has been agent to Suarez for four months and was shocked when he heard the account of the incident. “He’s a really good kid,” he said. “He’s not a violent person and he’s kind to everyone and to animals. He never cursed in front of me. It’s just a shame. They said he smoked something. It’s terrible that he put himself in that position. His girlfriend said he started hanging out with some guys and they got him to try something. It’s heartbreaking for me. It’s a shame.”

  3. legally registered gun

I hate this meme, moreover I hate that too many of us accept it as fact when it’s blatant anti-2A propaganda; keep repeating it until sheople accept it as fact, then enact the centralization of records.

Gun buyers fill out Form 4473, pass a NICS check and the only paper trail should be a completed 4473 that stays in the FFL’s bound book at his location. BATFE inspects the books for compliance, but are barred by law from databasing the records.

The only reason to register gun owners and the weapons they possess is to confiscate them. Now or later. It’s the only logical reason. Jesus on the cross, never register your guns.

  4. He must have taken some baadass shit. What a shame. I always admired Jockeys. Little men with great strength and courage on top of huge horses. I make my trip to Saratoga Springs each year just to watch. I guess I’ll never see Angel Suarez on a mount. What a pity
