Confessions of a Graphic Designer

In this video Elmer explains how the data in graphs is being exaggerated to make Global Warming worse than it actually is.

Watch it HERE.

Elmer is the guy behind the Minnesotans For Global Warming website (m4gw.com). They are famous for the video “If We Had Some Global Warming“, “Hide the Decline” and “Where Have All the Eagles Gone?“.

  1. Figures often beguile me, particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.”
    – Mark Twain

  2. Also note that when they put “year” on the X axis, the X axis is often times not the same all the way across. The first 99% of the X axis may represent thousands or even millions of years, but the last 1% will be only decades or a century.

And now, I will have “Hide the Decline” stuck in my brain all night long! Gee, thanks Claudia! 😉

  3. As an illustrator at a large medical facility, I used graphics programs to generate tons of graphs. I always wondered just how accurate they were. Some did seem questionable.

  4. I was required to take statistics in college (because that is what every nurse needs). All I remember from that course is the professor proclaiming that “you can prove anything with statistics.” That was almost 50 years ago and I still remember that one thing about statistics.
