KFI: “Careful whom you hire!!,” the Hamden Police Department in Connecticut warned in a Facebook post after a gas station employee allegedly stole more than $17,000 during his first day on the job.
The suspect had been hired to work the overnight shift at a Go On Gas station in Hamden and the owner decided to check in on how he was doing. The owner used an app to review the security cameras and was concerned because he did not see the new employee. more
If it’s the same story i heard about last week, the new hire also lifted his own personnel file, so the owner doesn’t even know his name. Idiot.
Sad lack of character on part of the crook. But he likely planned it all.
The employer should have set a payroll record from the start. (Was he paying him cash?)
Something is fishy.
Was everything in an open cabinet? Sheesh.
The station owner will hopefully be wise enough to extend his probation period after this right?😂
I saw a sign at a gas station. It said ‘help wanted’. There was another sign below it that said ‘self service’. So I hired myself. Then I made myself the boss. I gave myself a raise. I paid myself. Then I quit.

…there’s no such thing as the right amount of sin, so if you’re gonna steal, might as well steal BIG…
…that said, stealing lottery tickets is asinine. Those things are SUPER easy to trace, the lottery folks know EVERYTHING about them INCLUDING where they came from and when/if they were purchased, so he’s a dead man as soon as he tries to cash in.
…but I also don’t believe that about his employee records. There’s a fuckton of paperwork associated with any LEGITIMATE hire, with some going to Federal, State, and Local governments, so even if you’re one of the few folks not using a payroll service and actually directly paying your guy, there will STILL be SOME record SOMEWHERE with his made-up name and SSN on it.
…and who gives a guy an ENTIRE STORE to run by himself without a background check? No one LEGIT, is who. Either the owner’s in on it, is hiring folks under the table, the biggest idiot EVER, or some combination of all three.
…pretty tough to have sympathy, either way…
Was the owner a swarthy, bearded fellow like his alleged “new hire”? This sounds so ploddingly muslim scammy, I have to call bullshit. You hire a guy and you give him complete access, you will be able remember his name without the personnel file. “New Hire” is probably already working his next job, starting a fire at the local mosque for an insurance payout.
Maybe they should ask at the local mosque….
The guy as a future in politics.
By progressive logic, the owner can’t fire the employee/thief, because that would be”retaliation”.

Had a jury duty about a security company hiring a convicted car thief and putting him on third shift guard duty at a dealership. Stole a customer’s car the first weekend.
Took them 4 months to find him and the car and he was just living a few blocks behind the dealership.
We nailed the security company with malice for hiring him and gave the woman a $350,000 win against them.
I’d have to take a hard look at the boss and whomever hired the guy.
There’s a simple reason I don’t consider street-sign guy for real work.

Step back boys!… We got ourselves here a criminal mastermind.
I just know someone very recently gave him that “Go big or go home” speech…
