Conservative Darrell Issa turns to the left

OC Register: Darrell Issa, who built a reputation in Congress as an imposing conservative attack dog, has got a brand new bag.

With Democrats closing in on his seat last fall, Issa mailed a campaign ad praising President Barack Obama for signing a victims rights bill Issa supported — the same Obama he unrelentingly criticized while serving as the high-profile chairman of the House Oversight Committee.

The pro-life congressman, who squeaked out reelection to a ninth term by 0.7 percentage points, told constituents at a town hall March 11 that he opposed fellow Republicans’ call to defund Planned Parenthood.

Despite a lifetime legislative score of just 4 percent from the League of Conservation Voters, Issa also told the crowd that he also opposed any reduction in funding to the Environmental Protection Agency. Two days later, the same politician who’s said there’s no consensus on climate change joined the House Climate Solutions Caucus.

He’s expressed reservations with the GOP’s proposed replacement to Obamacare and has taken other steps to distance himself from President Donald Trump, even though he endorsed Trump last year and introduced him at a San Diego rally.  read more

  1. Another Menshevik who rejects the principles of the Constitution for the furtherance of personal gain. No public money should go to ANY advocacy group – regardless of its political priorities.
It is truly sad that Issa can bamboozle so many for so little – he is absolutely replaceable with a cash-stuffed dummy.

“The popular mind is incapable of scepticism; and that incapacity delivers their helpless strength to the wiles of swindlers and to the pitiless enthusiasms of leaders inspired by visions of a high destiny.”
    (“Nostromo,” Conrad)

  2. Hold it a second. How many Republicans have run a campaign based on their adherence to conservative principles including respect for a constitution limiting government power and come to Washington and suddenly you have Ryan or McConnell. Issa may not be the 100% hardline Conservative you hoped he was but I remember when he was shredding the liberals appearing before his committee and hammering Obama. Maybe nobody went to jail but I don’t think anyone else appearing before the various committee’s has gone to jail or been charged with a crime based on what a committee has uncovered. He’s in California and in a race as tight as they get and needs to do what it takes to get elected. He was one of the first to support Trump (way back in March of last year) and never walked it back even after the infamous “leaked” video. His voting record in Congress is firmly conservative. Don’t throw the guy overboard for having to seem a bit liberal to keep his seat.

  3. I remember a friend of mine saying “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his immortal soul”. Kind of like he was aiming it directly at old Mr. Issa.

Better to die on this hill, glad in the knowledge that our children will be raped to death, than mislead those who assail us.

Conservatism: All the Communism, just next Tuesday.

  5. We live in a Republic. A Representative Democracy, so to speak.
If a Representative no longer represents the ideals and values of his constituency, then he either practices hypocrisy in order to keep his job or he steps aside for someone more representative of that constituency.

It’s not only sad, but sadly pathetic (and WRONG), that the sinecures of office outweigh honor, integrity, and morality. Simply put, the job should not offer such opportunities for enrichment that it universally corrupts.
