Daily Caller:
The Democratic Mayor of Bridgeport, Conn., who spent almost seven years in federal prison for political-corruption, announced a campaign for governor of the state Wednesday.
Joe Ganim, 58, filed the necessary paperwork to run for governor at the State Elections Enforcement Commission office in Hartford, Conn., joining a number of other Democratic candidates who have expressed interest in running for current Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy’s spot, who said in April that he would not seek re-election.
Ganim was convicted of 16 federal corruption charges in 2003 while serving as mayor and was sentenced to nine years in prison. After serving almost seven years, Ganim was released.
Prosecutors said he directed contracts to his business partners and their clients for over $500,000 of personal gifts, including cash, diamonds, designer clothing, fine wine and even improvements to his home, WTOP reported.
Ganim was released and elected mayor of Bridgeport again in 2015 after apologizing, but now believes he deserves a shot as the governor of Connecticut.
Hard to keep a good criminal down.
In the Army they called that “re-uppin’ for the bennies”.
He musta missed all those perks while he was in the Crossbar Hotel.
🙂
if elected, further proof liberalism is a form of insanity.
FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP, UPDATE)
Connecticut State Police say an SUV carrying an ex-convict running for governor was clocked doing 87 mph and the driver was issued a verbal warning.
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim’s vehicle was pulled over on Interstate 84 in Southington on Wednesday, shortly after he filed paperwork to seek the Democratic nomination for governor. A Bridgeport police detective was driving the SUV.
A Hearst Connecticut Media reporter who also was in the vehicle had reported it was doing 100 mph and no ticket or warning was issued.
Ganim served nearly seven years in prison after being convicted of corruption in 2003 during his first tenure as Bridgeport mayor. He was released from prison in 2010 and elected mayor again in 2015.
Just paid his dues
what can we in nys say because we elected one of the retarded cuomo’s as our governor.
Certainly possesses his (D) bona fides.
izlamo delenda est …
The only difference between this guy and most of the Democrat leadership is that Ganim was actually convicted of corruption. This makes him as ethical as the Clintons – just not as smart.
Just because as an ex-felon he can’t vote for a governor doesn’t mean he can’t BE a governor.
If he loses, he could move to Illinois and run. The lead paint chip eaters in Chicago would live him.
ooooh lordy, imagine the graft at the State level. He lived like a lowly mafioso don on “perks & bennies” as Mayor of Bridgeport.
He has obama-esque ambitions in seeking the governorship in order to live like a king.
He certainly has the required qualifications necessary to run for a Democrat office.
Must we continue to allow CT to be a US State?
Not all of us here in Corrupt-cut are brain dead Lib-tards, we’re just badly outnumbered. As for Ganim, what do you expect from a state that didn’t lose population only because the number of taxpaying people moving to other states were replaced by immigrants, legal and illegal moving in. This is the same state where the Speaker of the House is allowed to keep his job as a high ranking union official. https://ctmirror.org/2016/12/30/ethics-opinion-aresimowicz-can-be-house-speaker-union-staffer/ What could go wrong? The same state where the son of now governor Mumbles Malloy was arrested for robbing a college drug dealer and was given accelerated rehabilitation, i.e. a slap on the wrist.
I could go on all day but I have to go out and shovel 8″ of Climate Change from my driveway.
My apologizes to the rest of the Country for my state giving you Senators Murphy and Sue-Them-All but at least we gave you Colt, Marlin, Mossberg and Winchester just to name a few fine firearms manufactures that started here in Connecticut.
Sikorsky… CT is my home state – it was cool in the 60s and 70s. Ice Storm, any one?
Again, why did GE move to Massachusetts?
