I know I’m probably in the minority here, considering so many conservative blogs and tweeters pumped out this picture. I saw it yesterday and passed on posting it. It didn’t sit right for me in the context of how this is being presented.
I’m only posting it now to explain my point of view.
I’ve often quoted Chris Rock’s joke about black people being proud of “taking care of their kids.” Rock screams in disbelief, “you’re SUPPOSED to take care of your kids!”
This is how I feel about this picture. We have to circulate an image of a cop helping out a lost little kid?? Cops are SUPPOSED to take care of lost kids. And they do, every day. It’s no big friggin’ deal. And to breathlessly post the picture is almost like you’ve found a picture of the Loch Ness Monster.
“But Fur, you don’t get it. It’s a white cop with a black kid.”
That’s worse.
“Hey look! We’ve found a rare picture. A white cop helping a black kid. He’s not beating the kid with a club. Can you believe it? No tasers. No handcuffs. It’s almost like the cop ISN’T RACIST!”
No folks. This is commonplace. No need to make it go viral. This happens all over this country every day.

BFH, I get your point, I’m a cranky old fuck too some times. But maybe some people in America just need that pic right now, lest the hate overcomes them. I know lately, some very old racist feelings have crept up in me. Then some little ol’ black lady smiles and remarks how beautiful my daughter is or a black teen holds the door for my wife and I refocus my well justufied hostility. Just saying.
I agree with you BigFurHat. Guy is doing his job; what’s the significance other than that the little tyke feels safe and comfortable in the man in blue’s arms to be able to sleep. Hasn’t been taught to hate yet.
Today in a break room in a bank in that same state, two loan officers, one white and one black and an assistant were relaxing. Popcorn was available for snacking. One bag of popcorn was sugar coated the other was purple, gold and green colored. The white loan officer who is diabetic says, I can’t eat the sweetened popcorn but I’ll have some of the colored popcorn. The black loan officer becomes enraged… “did you say “colored?”” Many historical and present day, real and conjectured, grievances were aired. The conversation went rapidly downhill.
I also agree.
Doing this re-enforces the idea that it isn’t normal, which it very much is.
Wait until the kid grows up. Then the story will change.

I agree with the point in principle, but geofraz is right. It never hurts to remind some haters that cops do more than harass people and bust heads. There’s plenty of pictures of that out there, too, and nobody ever says, “Why are those being shown? The cops are just doing their job.”
It went viral because the kid isn’t shooting the cop with a stolen gun…..
The LSM will NEVER depict a cop doing the many thousands of good deeds they do every year, especially with a negro civilian – so be glad it went viral just to shove it in the LSM’s ass.
