Cruz Makes SCOTUS PICK Ad – IOTW Report

Cruz Makes SCOTUS PICK Ad

It’s an effective ad … for 2010.

Trump declared he was pro-life at CPAC in February of 2011. Cruz is using old info… again. The clip in the ad is from 1999.Screen Shot 2016-02-15 at 12.43.40 PM

Now, having said all of this, if there were 3 SCOTUS picks and I had to choose between Cruz and Trump to make those nominations I would choose Cruz.

But, I’m concerned that Cruz continually relies on false information and presents it as fact.

Yes, Trump has only recently evolved on some issues. But Cruz should say that in his ad. Stating Trump’s pre-evolved position, as if it is still fact, can only be characterized as a lie.

A Trump ad can now factually call Cruz a liar. Is that what Cruz wants?

47 Comments on Cruz Makes SCOTUS PICK Ad

  1. “Meanwhile, back in South Carolina, Trump is threatening to go back on his pledge and run third party”

Now why would he do that considering he’s 20 points up in the Polls over his nearest competitor? Hmm.

Hey I know. Maybe to stop Rancid Penis from packing the debate audiences full of GOP Donors.

    Trump doesn’t like getting booed.

  2. I am just getting disgusted with the whole primary. Seriously, is this the best we can do from either party. I am used to having to hold my nose and vote. This year I will have to suppress my gag reflex.

  3. Trump press conference: Trump just announced that if Cruz doesn’t stop with the lies he will sue to determine if Cruz – born in Canada and a Canadian citizen until last year – qualifies as “natural born”.

Whatever the outcome of the suit, it will stop the Cruz momentum in its tracks.

That said, Cruz clearly has been lying about Trump doing away with 2nd amendment and Trump’s repeated pro-life public statements.

  4. I don’t trust that Trump has evolved on all the issues he says he has evolved on. It’s that simple. I don’t trust Trump. Cruz pointing out that Trump once held other opinions is not a lie. Trump blames Cruz for John Roberts and claims Cruz’s 2005 position disqualifies him today because Roberts gave us Obamacare. Seems Trump likes to have it both ways.

Tell me, what major issue has Trump not been on both sides of?

    The ad is fair.

  5. “But, I’m concerned that Cruz continually relies on false information and presents it as fact.”

Yep. But what bothers me MORE is that every time Cruz does this his supporters dig in ever deeper, become ever more insulting to Trump supporters (because face it, there aren’t any others who are in competition) and defend the dishonest STATEMENTS to the point of no return. They simply will not be able to vote for anyone other than Ted when this is over. Except for maybe Bernie, they still could cross and vote for Bernie out of misguided protest.

    That’ll show ’em!!!!!!

  6. If I have learned anything in 28 years of watching campaigns, don’t listen to what they say. All you can do is look at what they’ve done. By that standard, I have never seen a better candidate than Cruz, and few worse than Trump.

  7. The ad is not fair. What you’re saying is that Trump is not allowed to change his mind. If you’ve seen the entirety of that interview with Russett, you would have seen Trump say he believes abortion is terrible. But Cruz has edited that out to cast the worst possible light on Trump. What has changed is that Trump is now taken the conclusion that abortion is terrible to it’s logical end.

Cruz has backtracked on numerous issues like H1-B visas and the TPP. And those switches have been within the last year so they were clearly made political decisions.

  8. Showing footage of Trump’s support of abortion and partial birth abortion (in his own words) is not a lie, it’s more of a reflection of Trump’s moral principles. Trump built that wall, has he stated he was wrong and he’ll tear it down to save millions of unborn children?

  9. Having said that, I like what Trump’s rhetoric and tone did for the campaign. But we’re learning he’s been all over the map. Saying he’d appoint his sister to SCOTUS should scare any conservative

  10. If Trump runs as a third candidate it will just prove in the worst possible way that he can’t be trusted. If he does then be prepared for President Clinton or President Sanders because Trump will effectively split the conservative/semi-conservative/moderate votes and allow the dems to come right up the middle.

  11. TO Msloosedag

    NOW look who’s lying!
Trump did NOT say that. You draw a false conclusion – just like Cruz did by stretching CNN’s comments to mean “Carson is quitting” when they never said anything of the sort.

And, if you wish to judge someone by what they’ve DONE (rather than said), look at Cruz’s ensuring passage of the American Sovereignty DESTROYING Trans Pacific Trade Deal. The “best” response (READ: excuse) I’ve gotten to date on that was that Cruz turned against it when he found out it wasn’t what he intended. THE ONLY CONCLUSION one can take out of that is:

    either
    A) Cruz is incompetent and was suckered into guaranteeing passage of a near-traiterous Bill
    or
    B) Cruz is just another sleazebag politician well-versed in the art of plausible deniability, making sure he can claim “innocence” to the voters after having done the dirty deed.

IN EITHER CASE, I’d say such a person is NOT the best choice for the office of President.

  12. Now wait just a minute! Bfh posted a video on Cruzs view on Medicare and excess use of it from 1968! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!>>>

Hey, don’t blame me. Blame the person who sent it in.
    A tipster named Arnold Ziffle.

  13. There is a difference between core values and political opinion. Trump vacillates on both. My core values are solid and in my opinion Trump is he’s a blowhard teenager. I’m finding it harder to find a reason to vote for him if he is the nominee. If Hillary came out as Pro-2A and Pro-Small Govt would you believe she “evolved” or would you think that she’s lying?

  14. More desperate LIES from CRUZ

    http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/02/cruz-if-trump-wins-we-will-see-the-second-amendment-written-out-of-the-constitution/

    from “ridgerunner” Trump’s response:

“DONALD TRUMP’S RESPONSE TO THE LIES OF SENATOR CRUZ: (approximately one hour ago)

Ted Cruz is a totally unstable individual. He is the single biggest liar I’ve ever come across, in politics or otherwise, and I have seen some of the best of them. His statements are totally untrue and completely outrageous. It is hard to believe a person who proclaims to be a Christian could be so dishonest and lie so much.

Cruz said I would be appointing a liberal judge when in fact I will appoint a great conservative and I am the only candidate who has gone so far, at the debate, as to suggest two individuals I feel would best represent
the conservative values we need to protect: William “Bill” Pryor Jr. and Diane Sykes.

Cruz says I am pro-choice, when in fact I am staunchly pro-life and have been for a long time. Like Ronald Reagan, on many issues, I have evolved.

Cruz says I am in favor of ObamaCare, when in fact I have spoken about repealing and replacing this disaster of a system at every speech throughout my campaign and since it’s inception. Meanwhile, Cruz was responsible for getting Bush to put in the judge that failed to vote against ObamaCare twice.

Cruz says I will try to take away your second amendment rights, when I am one of the strongest proponents of the right to bear arms and I say so in every speech that I have made for years. I am a proud member of
the NRA and so are my sons.

Cruz has become unhinged and is lying with the hopes that his statements will go unchecked until after
the election and he will save his failing campaign.

In Iowa, Cruz told thousands of Ben Carson voters that Dr. Carson had left the race and to instead vote for Ted Cruz. He apologized when the race was over. Likewise, his fraudulent voter violation form sent to Iowa
voters. If Ted is going to continue to lie with such desperation, I have no choice but to fight back.

One of the ways I can fight back is to bring a lawsuit against him relative to the fact that he was
born in Canada and therefore cannot be President. If he doesn’t take down his false ads and retract his lies, I will do so immediately. Additionally, the RNC should intervene and if they don’t they are in
default of their pledge to me.

I am the strongest on the borders and I will build a wall, and it will be a real wall. I am strongest on illegal immigration, strongest on ISIS, strongest on the military and I will take care of our Vets. I will end common core and preserve the second amendment. I will renegotiate our trade deals and bring our jobs
back to our country. I am the only person who will Make America Great Again.”

  15. Czar… I never claimed he is perfect, but damn close. The best record of any candidate in my lifetime. And if nominated will run against the weakest dem field in my lifetime.

  16. The salient question would be,
if Hillary came out as pro-2A in 2011 and Cruz ran an ad saying Hillary is anti-2A, would Cruz be lying?
    The answer would be yes.

It doesn’t matter what you think is true, it’s what’s true.

    Trump said he’s pro-life in 2011.
Cruz makes an ad in 2016 saying Trump is pro-abortion and to prove it he runs a clip from 1999.

That is what’s know as.. a lie.

The ad should have said, “Trump said this in 1999 (run pro-choice clip) and then he said this in 2011 (run CPAC clip). Do you believe him? I don’t, you shouldn’t!”

The way Cruz did it is typical slimy political crapola.
And if he can run an ad like that trying to slip a lie past the goalie, than why should I trust he’s not lying to me on things I hope he does when president?

    That’s the problem.

And I have a real problem with sycophants who can’t admit this.

I give Trump a hard time on everything he deserves to have a hard time with.
    I do not pull punches.
I think Trump is wrong on Kelo, and that is big deal to me.
I think he’s light on specifics in regards to Obamacare.

I think he’s wrong to have said BUSH LIED.
Bush was misinformed by THE LEFT – the Clinton organization.

I made an entire film about this that I will link later on.
Trump is a huge disappointment running with Bush lied.
Iraq was a mistake. How we got there is not because Bush lied to America.

Trump’s a dope for saying that.

It’s freeing when you can admit the truth.

  17. Slime? The date of the interview, done by a guy who been dead for years is clearly visible. Cruz is not lying. I’ll vote trump if he is nominated, but I’ll do so not know who he’ll be next year.

  18. We have free exchange on this site.
People are free to say what they want.
I just want to make a point here.

It’s one thing to say Trump sucks, or Cruz sucks, and it’s another to say YOU SUCK because you back Trump or you back Cruz.

That is the line, that is what separates the thoughtful from the obnoxious.

Try and be respectful of your fellow reader here. They are not stupid, whoever they are backing.
If they were stupid they’d be at Crooks and Liars, or The Daily Kos.

  19. How can you say Cruz isn’t lying when he tells viewers that Trump is pro-choice when Trump made a speech at CPAC years ago announcing he’s pro-life?

    That didn’t happen?
Cruz gets to simply ignore that and run an ad telling viewers Trump is pro-choice?

  20. TO Msloosedag

“I never claimed he is perfect, but damn close.”

Considering the ramifications of the Trans Pacific Trade Deal (placing the USA in many respects under the thumb of International Bodies), I suggest to you that THAT is like saying,

    either
“Well, SURE, Mrs. Lincoln, but except for that, wasn’t the play great?!”
    or more on spot
“Except for that gassing business, the guy really built a great Autobahn!”

  21. This primary season for me is simply an exercise in observing the human condition.

I see both Trump and Cruz supporters willing to overlook the flaws in their favored candidate.

There are people here that will look at this ad and tell you with a straight face that Cruz isn’t deceiving viewers with this ad.

Facts are facts. Cruz is presenting Trump’s 1999 pro-choice view when he’s been pro-life since 2011. And there are some Cruz supporters who will fight you tooth and nail that Cruz isn’t being deceptive- aka lying.

    I’m extremely disappointed.

On the other side of the coin, there are some Trump supporters who are unwilling to yield to the critics that Trump’s recent evolution on a number of issues is a legitimate issue for people not willing to take that leap of faith.
And that’s what the Cruz ad should say. He shouldn’t simply ignore the evolution and state the previous position as the current position.

  22. Fur wrote: “Yes, Trump has only recently evolved on some issues. But Cruz should say that in his ad. Stating Trump’s pre-evolved position, as if it is still fact, can only be characterized as a lie.”

The proble is that Cruz, his campaign and many of his supporters have a problem – a very serious problem – with truth and reason.

Hence the endless rationalizations and excuses from scandal to scandal…building up and leading to ka-RAY-zee, bizarre crap like out of Trevor Loudon’s Renee Nal, who writes that Carson should apologize to Cruz and CNN, even though it was Cruz’s campaign which interpreted/STRETCHED the information and FALSELY CLAIMED “Carson is quitting.”

THE LOGICAL CONCLUSION? When Ben Carson eventually DOES drop out, I wouldn’t be surprised for Cruz or his campaign to come out and say, “See?! We were telling the truth in Iowa!” THAT’S THEIR LEVEL OF – ahem – “interpreting” THE TRUTH.

    F*CKING LIARS.

  23. BFH, I am sorry, I just don’t see it as dishonest. If the date weren’t there, maybe. But this is primary season. Trump better be prepared for worse if he’s nominated. Czar, it’s not just abortion, what about his glowing statements on Obama and his performance?

  24. Cruz probably doesn’t make, see or even approve every ad but he is responsible for everything his staff puts out. I think he needs to do a little management shifting. Credibility is one thing he can’t afford to lose. Trump is whining like a bitch and it is really getting tiresome. Kasich could be scoring points by not wallowing in the pig pen with the rest.

  25. It’s just a matter of scale. If you watch the full Trump video he does say “I hate abortion but it’s the law of the land”.

The Cruz campaign regurgitated a CNN story about Carson backing out of the race.

Trump has been a liberal Democrat his whole life. Giving the Hillary witch $200,000 is vastly more evil than Cruz campaign tactics. It’s beyond the pale to me.

Cruz, from what I can glean, has been a conservative his whole life. He was a master debater in hIgh school and college. Leftists can’t win debates because you have to have truth on your side to win debates consistantly.

  26. The ad has the date in it on the old clip. Everybody knows it is old. The ad ended saying “We cannot trust Donald Trump with these serious decisions.”

I see absolutely no lie here. I am also guessing this is just one of a series. Expect Cruz to play clips of Trump on his gay marrige stance, 2A stance, single payer stance and more.

To think that he can offer Trumps varying positions in a 30 second ad (or would even consider it) is confusing to me. Why?

BTW, these ads are not designed for the intense political junkie with a 140 IQ. Dumb people elect our president, not smart people, so ads are generally produced at or below the 8th grade level. Like it or not, that’s how it works.

No disrespect intended to anybody, just stating the facts as I see them.

Remember, Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house, so she is an idiot, right?

  27. Cruz is engaging in political mud slinging. Agreed. It’s what politicians do to get elected.

Trump is giving his own money to Hillary, Is complementing Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and has been a liberal democrat his whole life.

He is a Populist and Populists are frauds. I want to believe him on his immigration policy and I kind of think he is sincere there, but the rest of his political positions and his history should be a serious concern for anybody.

His supporters don’t seem to have ever heard of a populist politician because they sure don’t see the danger there.

William Jennings Bryant, Huey Long, FDR mean nothing to them

  28. “Remember, Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house, so she is an idiot, right?”

@menderman ~ I hope that was in jest. Citing a Saturday Night Live skit as proof that Palin is an idiot is the same game that Cruz seems to be playing with his narrative … only it’s not humor, it’s misleading, to say the least.

I am more than disturbed by both Trump & Cruz lately. One wrapping himself around ‘the face of our God’ while bending the truth into a pretzel, while the other one attacks blindly, regardless of harm to himself.

This could be the perfect opening for Little Robio. I hope not.

I will vote for the eventual nominee, as I have in all elections

…but, if Jeb! is the nominee……. ugh … do we die a little slower, or die quickly & let the revolution begin sooner? I do know I’d rather let Bush, than Hitlary pick the next Supreme Court members.

  29. The Real Trump shown by Cruz. Lies! LOL! When did Trump the clown have his awakening that he is now a conservative? Maybe just before he gave boat loads of money to the democrats during the last election. Suckers the lot of you.
