  1. $500,000 cash surety bond, if she was an illegal invader would there have been any bond? You have a court date of February 30th, 2028. You better be here or you are in big time trouble.

“No one was injured but she was taken to the hospital for treatment???”

…I can shed a little light on that. Often folks that dont cooperate when being apprehended get some scrapes and sprains and such, and I often saw such worthies at the sally port of the muni jail. These often late night encounters usually involved a glowering officer who was not happy he was legally required to summon us, we medics also less than thrilled about having to to treat this whiny and often inebriated person like they were honestly in the mortal danger from the handcuff bruise they thought they were and the accompanying metric shit ton of paperwork we would have to generate, and of course the actor him-or her-self. As “pain” can only be TRULY assessed by the alledged sufferer, these things often came down to asking the perp if he wanted to go to the hospital or the jail, upon which he would typically leap into the ambulance without further prompting if he werent otherwise restrained.

This was probably that. Very common for folks to prefer docs poking them with a needle as opposed to fellow inmates poking them with a penis.

…a fun feature of our visits to the local lockup was that we would have to check the more obvious weapons in our rescue holsters with the bored clerk behind the 8″ thick bulletproof Judas hole. I had (and still have) a nice Buck folder in mine, which on one occasion I checked with the gal as normal and figured to pick up when we came back to quarters, our building sharing a driveway with the PD. Tonight’s runner was an alledged karate man with a nice PR-24 mouse under his eye who the cops claimed was chop sockying the denizens of a local bar and supposedly did present some level of threat, hence the nightstick kiss to the face that was now our problem. So I’m the box guy that night and we’re getting situated to pull out when the back door unexpectedly opens and the cop who’s going to be chasing us cheerily says “Here, you forgot this!” and tosses my (closed) Buck ONTO THE PATIENT’S CHEST.

Happily, he was as surprised as I was but I recovered quicker, picking it up with two fingers so as not to alarm the possibly insane patient and saying to the cop “Thanks, I’ll get it later” through clenched teeth as sarcastically as possible as I chucked it up the passthrough to the driver’s compartment, so the guy on the cot could fully understand that neither he nor I would end this fun-filled evening with it stuck in one of our chests.

…in fairness, the cop did apologize for it later (rare for cops to do that), saying he was just trying to be nice and not thinking about it enough.

But alls well that ends well, and so I am here to tell the tale.

…at least that guy wasnt a puker, but thats a different story for another day…

  4. Queequeg: likely pronounced stir-ned, also probably of Hungarian origin. There are lots of people of Hungarian descent in eastern Connecticut and those folks are pretty stingy when it comes to vowels.
