The team at TimeGhost have been working diligently this year putting together a truly incredible production of this important day in history: The Invasion of Normandy by Allied Forces in 1944. This first 6-hour program aired last night. Watch
You can catch the remaining 18-hours of D-Day. Here
Wow! 24 hours of D-Day. It’ll take a while but I’ll be looking at it.
looks very interesting … & absorbing.
definitely going on my watch list
had a great-Uncle (Army) that landed on the hell of Omaha Beach … on day, when I was about 11 or 12 I asked him about his experience. he glowered at me for a few seconds & said, “don’t ever ask me about what I did in the War.” He was severely wounded on the road to Berlin & almost didn’t make it. He was MIA & my great-grandparents received a telegram from the War Department. I think back & realize he must have had a lot of PTSD.
had another Uncle (Navy) that was a gunner on one of the landing crafts on D-Day. I learned at his funeral, from a Navy Chaplin, that he was credited by the Navy for being the first swabby to take down a Messerschmitt. He never talked about his experiences either.
great young men that toke their duty to their country seriously
I had a great Uncle that survived the Bataan Death March. He came home and didn’t say much to anybody. Worked as a janitor in our school and kept to himself. Tough to imagine what those guys went through..
Thank you. Also for those interested there is a 4 part series Operation Goodwood lectures by those who participated. On youtube.
ty for the link, will definitely watch that.
On the other hand, it bothers me that so much attention given to Overlord, and to a lesser extent, Bastogne, and yet so may other crucial battles are completely overlooked – Arracourt, Elsenborn Ridge, Hurtgen Forest…I could go on.
