Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson Switches to Republican Party

tex trib-

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, a longtime Democrat, is now a Republican — turning Dallas into the largest city in the country with a GOP mayor.

“Today I am changing my party affiliation,” Johnson wrote in an op-ed published Friday in The Wall Street Journal. “Next spring, I will be voting in the Republican primary. When my career in elected office ends in 2027 on the inauguration of my successor as mayor, I will leave office as a Republican.”

Johnson served in the Texas Legislature for nine years as a Democrat before he was elected as Dallas mayor in 2019. Though the mayor’s position is technically nonpartisan, Johnson joins Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker as one of two Republican mayors to lead a major Texas city.

  1. And what will be done about the massive election fraud that goes on every fucking election in Dallas County

You get 2 guesses and the first one doesn’t count if you reference 8 inches.

  2. So fucking what? Ben Sasse and Don Bacon, who have both been my overlords, both say they are republican too.

Remember, these days we all get to identify as whatever the fuck we want to be. If he doesn’t start voting like a conservative, not a republican, it means nothing.

  3. If a politician functions without an opposition party or a free press to make him hesitate a bit, won’t he still steal as fast as as much as he can until he dies?

  4. The only reason he is a Republitard now is because the DNC is tired of having conservatives point out how much Demonicrat ruled cities are all shitholes. Now, they can say, “What about Dallas?” And Dallas is a shithole, too. It’s the suburbs that make Dallas a relatively wealthy area.

  5. Just for a moment, let’s say he truly went solidly to the right, adopted conservative values, etc.

A drop of red in a sea of blue can make what kind of difference? Only possible in personal, small ways. One at a time, if you will.

I’m that drop of red just in my neighborhood. I make tiny bits of difference when talking to long term neighbor friends in conversations. They start off spitting out some lefty logic like; “if we paid teachers more, the education would be better”.

Nonsense, I said. In this conversation, the guy has rental properties, cuts hair in is home, and sells pot. Quite the risk-taking entrepreneur.

He agreed when I proposed if he was the only pot seller in town, he could get crazy top dollar and not give one care about the quality of his product if there was no competition. He also agreed he has to lower his price and give quality product to sell if he has competition. So… free market ends up a win for the consumer.

Same with education. Paying them more with no requirement to do better will just mean less product quality – educated kids – and lazy teachers. Give them the competition of non private schools getting that tax money if they produce better educated students. Put their feet to the fire and make them earn their money or find another job. The kids matter – not the teachers.

He saw the light from the easy logic and agreed like he finally saw the light of conservatism.

My cynical guess about his party affiliation is it’s some kind of political calculation, not genuine.

But hey! I would love to be wrong about this. Did I get it right that he’s never RUNNING as a Republican, just that he’ll leave office as one, fake or not?
