LifeZette:Wednesday marks the 75th anniversary of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. The battleship USS Arizona, all these years later, remains a watery grave on the sea floor for 1,177 officers and crewmen who perished during the attack; their bodies were never recovered.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt was working on his stamp collection in his private study in the White House. It was 1:47 p.m. in Washington, D.C.

“The phone rings at this desk — it is the secretary of the Navy on the line,” Herman Eberhardt, curator at the FDR Library in Hyde Park, New York, told CBS News. “He tells the president that the Pearl Harbor naval base is under attack.”

How did Roosevelt respond? “First reaction was to shout into the phone, ‘No!’ sort of in a state of disbelief,” Eberhardt said.  more

  1. If Obama had been President, in response, he would have surrendered and given America to the Japanese. Just like he handed this country over to the Moslems and illegal voters.
    🙁

  2. I am honoring my Marine Raider dad who lied about his age and enlisted when he was only 17 because of Pearl Harbor. He did not talk about the war much, except I know he had killed at least a dozen men before his 18th birthday.

  3. My dad told me this story a few times before he passed.

He was 11 years old and playing outside when one of his pals came running down the street. “The Japanese just attacked Pearl Harbor!”

Dad asked him “Where’s Pearl Harbor?”

“I dunno, I think somewhere in Louisiana.”

Innocence, lost. Little did he know that in a couple years, his own father would be called into active service at 36 years of age and having 5 kids at home. Granddad was in the Navy and ended up on the escort carrier St. Lo. He swam in the Pacific for a while in late 1944 after a kamikaze plane sank the ship.

Also on that December 11, little did Dad know that his uncle, Granddad’s brother, would serve as a research team leader on the Manhattan Project.

  4. “I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve.”

Although there is controversy on whether Yamamoto said this or not, it is indeed accurate no matter. My blue light shines brighter today out of a deep respect.

  5. OVERHEARD IN THE TRUMP TOWER:

    TRUMP: GENERAL, DO YOU TWEET??
MATTIS: FUCK NO!!! THAT’S FOR PUSSIES!!
TRUMP: OK, JUST TO BE CLEAR, I SAID “TWEET”, NOT “TWERK”.
MATTIS: TWEET, TWERK, YADA YADA, SAME ANSWER, FUCK NO!!!

  6. Sadly, most of the men who fought and died defending our country wouldn’t recognize the United States of America during the years it has had to endure under Barack H. Obama. Gladly, things are about to be restored under President Donald J. Trump. In four years, this country will know what a difference a real American can make as Commander in Chief.

  7. My local paper, owned by Gannett Corp, had a top-to-bottom front page picture of a ship on fire in Pearl Harbor with a “never forget” type headline.

I don’t ever remember that much, if any, coverage/recognition of the attack before this last election.

Me thinks they are reading the Trump Cabinet tea leaves and responding accordingly.
