Disney sues DeSantis over alleged ‘campaign to weaponize government power’ against company

WaEx: Disney has filed a lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and members of the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District alleging government power has been weaponized against them.

In the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, the company alleges a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.”

Disney argues the state and DeSantis have violated its First Amendment right to speech by working to strip control of the special taxing district encompassing the Walt Disney World Resort from the company after Disney spoke out against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill.

The lawsuit was filed shortly after the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District unanimously approved a resolution to declare an agreement designed to undercut the new board’s power as void. Disney cites the action as the “latest strike” in the state’s string of “retaliatory” and “unconstitutional” actions.

“Today’s action is the latest strike: At the Governor’s bidding, the State’s oversight board has purported to ‘void’ publicly noticed and duly agreed development contracts, which had laid the foundation for billions of Disney’s investment dollars and thousands of jobs,” according to the lawsuit. “This government action was patently retaliatory, patently anti-business, and patently unconstitutional.” more here

  1. I’ll use the left’s favorite hollow rejoinder,”Free speech does not mean free of consequences”.

And the word “weaponized” has become as convoluted and meaningless as “globalist”. Common sense can be weaponized against idiocy, the rule of law can be weaponized against lawlessness, and existing legal procedures can be weaponized to remedy a contractual agreement that has been proven to be unfair to Florida taxpayers.

I would not expect Igor, who has consciously positioned both himself and his company squarely on the battlefield of woke, to roll over and take his beating. His honor is at stake, that and the mindless braying of his dopey employees has forced his hand.

    So now the courts decide.

  2. Rich, the court is not going to declare Vatican status back to Disney.
This is simply a move to save a little face.

Another great thing about it is like the Bud Light fiasco.
Your idiot CEO can say things like “don’t worry, we will get that law repealed” but there WILL BE CONSEQUENCES.

  3. Another issue has been enlightening people as to how the MSM & dems collude.
They call a “Parental Rights in Education” bill a “Don’t Say Gay” bill & the MSM runs with it without pause.

Parents say wait, how does removing textbooks teaching an 8 yr old how to give blow jobs become “don’t say gay”?

  4. It’s a bit past its prime now but during the controversy, I would have loved it if RDS started every press conference with, “Despite Disney and the MSM not reading the actual bill and them hoping you all did not read the bill as well, here in Florida we can and have always been able to say gay. There, I said it. I hope that clears up any confusion”.

  5. Rich, DeSantis does push back on the press almost as much as Trump.

What our side needs to do is follow their playbook.
Any pro-abortion legislation needs to be labeled “the so-called kill the babies, black-genocide bill.”
Every R needs to say it during every interview they do.
