Disney’s ‘Beauty And The Beast’ Is Filled With ‘Toxic Masculine Capitalism,’ Rants Nutty Professor

Daily Caller: A politics professor at taxpayer-funded Florida International University is complaining that strains of “toxic masculine capitalism” run rampant in the Disney film “Beauty and the Beast.”

The professor is Bryant W. Sculos. His treatise, titled “We are the Beast: On Toxic Masculinity and Social Responsibility in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” appears in the current issue of an academic journal called “Class, Race and Corporate Power.”

In treacly prose that is simultaneously angry and replete with Hallmark-card Marxism, Sculos proposes that the Beast and Gaston — the two main male characters in “Beauty and Beast” — represent “toxic masculinity.”

Both the classic animated movie (released in 1991) and a live-action remake released in 2017 represent “toxic masculinity,” he claims.

The animated version from 1991 “taught young boys that sometimes the sensitive, intellectual guy could ‘win’ the heart of the beautiful woman (and that a woman who could and loved to read was worth desiring),” Sculos argues.

Both films feature “toxic masculinity,” he declares. The 2017 live-action version digs a bit deeper into the reasons why several servants at the Beast’s castle are suffering under a curse placed on the Beast.

These servant characters — a candelabra, a teapot, a pendulum clock and some others — were “responsible for the violent, close-minded toxic masculinity that nearly destroyed their small community,” Sculos explains.

Sculos is also really sad and angry because the residents of the poor provincial town where viewers first meet Belle, the main character, celebrate Gaston, the arrogant villain in “Beauty and the Beast.”

“In the original animated film, we see a bit of the role that the villagers play in glorifying Gaston’s grotesque and necrophilic existence, but this socially-cultivated necro-narcissism and megalomania has more prominence in the recent version,” Sculos propounds.

Sculos denounces virtually everyone in “Beauty and the Beast” except for Belle.

SNIP:  Hole E Schnitt, that’s a lot of pent up anger bursting out!

Either Bry Bry was beaten up/humiliated  by a ‘Gaston’ when he was 16 and never got over it, or he
not so secretly desperately wants to become a Disney Princess himself, so he can put on a dress and twirl and twirl and twirl…

  1. Just because your own childhood dreams of finding your own prince were smashed by reality doesn’t mean you have to ruin a children’s story for everybody else. Just accept the fact that you are just not that appealing to men in leather and move on. Go buy some wine and a gerbil, enjoy your evening and leave Disney out of it.

  2. Geezuz, how the hell long has this guy been trying to get laid that he resorted to this drivel. Doesn’t he realize that if (and that’s a mightly big if) the only ones likely to reward him with an evening with their “pink hat” is going to be Janeane Garafalo, Rosie O’donnell (yeah, she’s a fat dyke but she’ll take one for the team) or Caitlyn Jenner (I gather she still has a penis so that could be a little awkward but hell, you’ve waited thius long so it’s sort of halfway home). Choose well.

  3. Florida again. I sometimes wonder if Castro is pumping some type of aerosol suspended hallucinogen into the atmosphere. Nothing else can explain some to these Florida fruitcakes. It also seems like they’re more susceptible if they have a professor in front of their name.
More education does not mean more intelligence.

  4. And parents scrimp and save and sacrifice in order to send their kids to indoctrination centers….why?
Send your kid to a vocational school. Teach them a useful trade.

And help them out on a down payment for their first house.

    Spend the remainder on yourselves.

You’ll be way ahead of the game.

  5. What is toxic masculinity? Or are these people just putting some words and phrases together in a meaningless jumble? For example, I don’t worry about toxic masculinity, I worry about sweet and sour concrete.

  6. This Professor’s essay argues at a high school level. His lack of depth belies his lack of knowledge of literature. His simplistic dogmatic assertions reveal a shallowness of intellect and absence of curiosity that should be insulting to serious students, if there are any in his classes.

  7. How do these schools hire professors, gather applicants in a room, thank them for coming and say “will the idiots remain seated the rest of you are free to go”.
