  1. Dispatcher to officer “You can take your time driving in your battery-powered police car to the location since we are tracking the Hellcat on GPS to it’s final location unless you run out of battery power first”.

  2. My recollection is that the first year those came out, MORE THAN HALF were destroyed within months, crashed by their owners. That is a car for stupid people with money to burn.
    Now a GTR… 🙂 not that I have one, or ever will…

  3. What ever happened to confiscatory insurance premiums on muscle cars? Pretty much killed the market in the 70’s. It’s why I ordered my Nova SS with a 350 instead of a 396.

  4. I went by a County Sheriff on the highway in my Mach 1. By the time he turned on his pretty blues I was a half mile ahead and exited the freeway and was no where to be found. The next morning my mom told me the police had paid her a visit last night.

I was over my fast car days before the Hellcat showed up. My buddy Jim Gonia had a Thunderbolt. It made short work of Hellcats.

Faster than a Hellcat in 1964? Ford Thunderbolt

Jim also had a 67 that was pretty quick

  5. …that was SUPER dangerous of the cop to pass traffic on the RIGHT, BTW, especially as fast as he was moving.

Folks hear a siren and AUTOMATICALLY move to the right. You have to EXPECT them to do that just out of sheer force of habit. If anyone had pulled in front of him while he was doing that, closing as fast as he was, that would be 100% on HIM.

…there’s that “Due Caution” thing again, your lights and sirens don’t make traffic vaporize, human beings still need to recognize and react and YOU have to anticipate how THEY will, not the other way ’round…

  6. I read a story a few years ago about a Dodge Challenger that evaded the cops out west. The cop cars couldn’t keep up so they sent out a helicopter, but it ran low on gas and they had to turn back. The story said the Challenger was going in excess of 150mph.

The WSP had a sticker on their cruisers tat said: Move Right For Sirens & Lights

~ 1999 I used to commute 55 miles south on Interstate 5 and did exactly that and was damn near rear ended in a Ford Ranger 4×4 by a cruiser going around me on the right. The next time I stopped in at the State Patrol Chief’s house to visit his daughter I brought up the topic and he informed me that the Trooper self reported they had already had quite a serious discussion about how that went down. They had it on the WSDOT traffic camera footage and although the guy really screwed up he made a recovery a NASCAR driver would have been proud of.
