Do You Eat Fast Food? – IOTW Report

Do You Eat Fast Food?

This is NOT a judgement post. I say eat what you like. I’m just curious about the price, quality, and quantity of the food at (X) restaurant lately.

If your workplace doesn’t have a fridge, you can’t bring your lunch to work. Or maybe you can’t run home to have lunch- so your option may be fast food or a vending machine.

That said, I can remember when fast food was a “treat” when I was a kid. Not a daily or weekly (or even a monthly) thing like it is now.

McDonald’s Will Likely Revamp Value Meal as Kamalanomics Continues to Strain the Wallets of Lower-Income Customers

(Natural News)—McDonald’s Chief Executive Officer Chris Kempczinski has announced that the fast food giant will likely “revamp” its value meal as President Joe Biden’s economic program, also known as “Bidenomics,” continues to strain the wallets of lower-income customers.

In July, McDonald’s reported a decline in same-store sales for the first time in nearly four years, a drop attributed to tightened consumer spending following prolonged periods of high inflation. In response, the fast-food giant introduced a $5 summer deal in June, designed to offer an affordable option for customers struggling amid inflation and high interest rates.

The limited-time meal deal, which includes a choice of a McDouble, McChicken sandwich or a 4-piece Chicken McNuggets, along with a small fry and soft drink, has been well-received by customers. And now that customers continue to grapple with economic strain, McDonald’s extended the offering until December. more here

  1. I went to Taco Bell yesterday, got the usual combo of a Burrito Supreme + 2 Tacos. There was only one taco in the bag. Checked my receipt, yep, the combo’s been reduced to one taco.

    FJB, I want my taco.

  2. If you let McD’s track your activity with their app, you can get some very good deals, especially at breakfast. A standard one is any breakfast sandwich for $2.00, and that includes some hefty ones whose menu prices are close to $5.00. If that isn’t enough, at the same time you can get a sausage biscuit and hash brown combo for $2.39. I drink water with meals, so I don’t buy their high-priced meh coffee and the whole tab is less than $5.00 for a LOT of food.

And the you get points for dollars spent, and when you accumulate enough points you can get free food. Every month or so I get a quarter pounder w/cheese for free.

  3. when out, i look for the special signs. most of the time i will stop at the taco truck. cash only, tacos are 2 bucks with choice of meat, comes with a side of radishes, fried onions, a fried pepper, and a flat taco shell with refried bean smear. 4 bucks, 2 tacos, the perfect amount. i always give them a buck tip and the tacos are loaded.

  4. When I was in the Telco I used to open cans of soup with my tape knife. I didn’t even have a spoon. I dragged the shit into my gullet with the same tape knife.

I could eat all day on a dollar.

Coffee in the morning before the sun came up. Can of shit soup in the afternoon, and beer in the evening.

I’m older now. I can’t eat canned soup, or drink beer.

  5. Unfortunately way too often. Although I should pay attention to coupons and such, I don’t.

Unfortunately we pretty much stopped cooking when my daughter joined the air force. We were quite the pair in a small kitchen, and the food was awesome.

Also, things are going on which pretty much eliminated my drive to cook.

So, fast food / restaurants are pretty much all we eat.

  6. Burgers at the fast-food chains $7.00 and up these days. (Thanks, joe.)
So I Keep a few coupons in my car in case I get hungry when out and about.
    I request the senior discount.
And ask for the coupon back so I can use it again.

  7. Mac Fuckholes used to have this bagel thing with shit on a shingle.

I don’t remember what it was called.

But Chico and I, back when we were walking crew, used to load up on the shit-on-a-shingle-bagel, and sorta decent coffee.

Go back to the CO and wake up at 10AM. When the fucking phone rang.

We do less by noon than most people do all day.

  8. Seldom enjoy fast food of any kind, so it is a treat for me.

I drive more than 45 minutes for a grocery store run (big chain, best prices). So, I have enough groceries when I do shop to last me over a week. When I go, if it will be over lunch or dinner, I pack a sandwich and large milk to have while I drive. Just too cheap to spend much money on unhealthy food.

  9. There’s a sub shop just down the street, a local chain. I go in the summer when I don’t want to cook. The prices have gone up and the subs have gotten smaller. There’s also a Wendy’s and a Mickey D’s close by, but after Covid the quality and service suck and what they charge I might as well get a prepared meal from the supermarket.

  10. I don’t have to scrimp any more, but I do. That’s just me. I used to run to the local Sonic on Tuesday night to get the buy-one-get-one-free cheeseburgers. The last time I went, I asked for heavy pickles. When I got home, I discovered I had been charged $1.30 more for two extra pickle slices. That was two years ago, and I haven’t been back. Screw them! Once in a while, I’ll get a bag of Jack-In-the-Box tacos for old time’s sake. Hey, don’t judge me!

  12. I haven’t been able to afford fast food since 2022, and then it was during a cross-country road trip when there was little other choice.
I could spend the same amount in Market Basket and get two or three meals out of what it would cost for a Big Mac “value” meal at McDs today.
went to a Five Guys during a work trip several months ago and I could have eaten at a REAL restaurant for what a double bacon burger, medium fries and large soda cost me!

  13. I don’t eat out much at all. Ate at a sit-down restaurant on Monday. Decent food, both my friend and I had modest meals. Total was about $20 before the tip. You may as well eat at a sit-down restaurant these days.
And on the rare occasions I get coffee out… I get a medium cappuccino, nothing particularly extravagant, and it costs me around $8. Even those are less in a sit-down restaurant.

  14. Not much up here in North Maine for fast food except that big ole bull moose that just ran across the road in front of me. McDs used to be good. Now, the filet of fish looks like they found a way to filet a minnow and put it on a 1/3 size bun. Bkfst burritos were good @ $1. Now they are at least double that. I’ve started baking my own beans once a week.

  15. I deeply detest the automated tip options presented on the card reader when you pay. I’m not tipping someone for taking a fast food order, bagging the order and handing it to me. Very cheeky on their part.

  16. Very rarely, not a big fan. I like the occassional McD breakfast.

I like to cook and I cook almost every day. Last night was our turn to host our bi-weekly family dinner. I made a creamy pork, apple and cider casserole with mashed potatoes, steamed green beans and green cabbage. Eight servings at approx. $3.20 per plate.

  17. You really have to shop around. El Pollo Loco – coupons only too expensive and they always try to inflate your order. JITBox has some good coupons Carl’s too. Del Taco can’t keep a location in my town open – used to have good coupon deals. Never miss dollar taco Tuesday at Taco Exxpress. Naugles open again in Orange County good stuff close to original. In N Out always good. Pro tip – always bring your own beverage.

  18. I have mostly sworn off fast food joints due to $$ and health.

The last time I got something was a Whooper Jr maybe this last fall. No fries or drink.

Used to love McDs Sausage and Egg sandwich with the hash brown, but that was when I still lived in MN (left in 2017) and my work was just across the street.

I do like Culvers Mushroom Burger, but been at least 6 months since I stopped wasting money on fast foods.

  19. mrs. radiomattm, funny, i calculate cost per dish also. did a pork butt chili for 12, with seconds. buck a bowl. buying on sale can really get the price down. that was some years ago before the not inflation hit.

  20. A couple times a year. I have a love mcdees cheese burgers & if it’s lunch time & I’m near one I’ll grab a couple. Did this last week & it was around 7.50 for two burgers.

  21. I’m going buffalo hunting next week and will be eating healthy, lean buffalo meat for a long time. So long fast food! Homemade bison burgers and buffalo chili sounds great. I’m using my Lyman .54 caliber muzzle-loading Plains Rifle to take the bison just like in the old days. Gonna have a rug made from the hide.

  22. Next up, Mcd’s selling singles for a buck. Greasy old French fries that is.
Their fries can be okay at times depending on how many days have left the oil without changing it.That kind of stuff they don’t want you to know.
I almost never go there and make my own lunch.
