Do you have any seating available in the no shooting section?

A server fired a gun inside a popular restaurant on the Southeast Side of San Antonio during a physical fight with a customer, although no one was hurt, according to police.

The shooting happened about 1 p.m. Wednesday at Little Red Barn Steakhouse, located in the 1800 block of South Hackberry.

Crystal Halliday, 28, witnessed the altercation and said it began when a customer complained and then attacked the server.

“He was the one that threw the first punch,” she said. “He was a larger man, so he was on top of the waiter, beating him up pretty bad. I believe he also hit him with a computer that was there at the hostess stand.”

According to officers, the customer was unhappy with the meal or service.

Investigators say the waiter managed to pry himself away.

“As soon as they broke him apart, he was enraged from everything and he got on top of the hostess stand,” Halliday said.

Halliday said the server pulled out a gun and pointed it at the crowd for a moment.

“We ran to the back along with other people,” she said. “We went behind a table.”

The San Antonio Police Department said the employee fired three shots into the ceiling before running off. The customer also ran off.

No one was hit in the shooting. The restaurant owner said employees aren’t allowed to have weapons at work.

The Little Red Barn Steakhouse was closed while the incident remained under investigation.

The restaurant reopened around 3 p.m. and released a statement saying managers have been in discussions with the employee and the employee is cooperating with police.

San Antonio police say the investigation is ongoing. Both men could face charges.

!snip!

The title of this post refers to a Howard Stern call to Sparks Steak House in NYC, after Paul Castellano, mob boss, was gunned down in right in front of the restaurant.

I cannot believe that that was more than 30 years ago.

  1. Lol. Yeah, Texans are VERY serious about food, especially in San Antonio. Although it’s usually about quantity and not so much quality. It’s not one of the ten most obese cities in the country for nuttin, honey.

  2. I can’t even tell what is going on in that video. Is the shooter the guy in the red jacket. The footage is so shaky and the incident is filmed from behind.

Why is someone even filming this. Wouldn’t a sensible person take cover or flee a shooting?

  3. I watched it a few times and still can’t tell what happened by it. Very poor video. Timing – only catching things well after the action started, quality – everything.

The story with it says waiter fired into ceiling 3 times.

That last shot looked like it was more horizontal and aimed.

Was he a waiter? It looked like a thug in a jacket – in Summer?

Regardless, it didn’t look like self defense in the video. It looked like he was trying to influence everyone around him with the threat of death.

If this is all a jury gets to see, I can see him losing some rights and freedom from it.

  4. “Wouldn’t a sensible person take cover or flee a shooting?”

A sensible person wouldn’t text while driving. Or take a selfie on the edge of a cliff. But that’s where we are today.

  5. I suspect if the clientele thought or knew the staff was armed, this would have been a much more civil encounter. Probably little or no threat of an armed robbery as a bonus.
