If you have rusty nuts you oughta try a candle and a lighter.
This is a great trick.

WD-40?
Very Nice thanks
I don’t have rusty nuts……I just walk that way.
I use Kroil or PB Blaster and let it
soak in overnight. For small stuff like
tiny screws on a fishing reel I use my
secret weapon 50% transmission fluid and
50% acetone mixed.
I have rusty nuts, but that burnt the hair off them….. Ouch!
Guaranteed to chase out the critters!
The problem with this is now you have wax all over the threads when you are done. You need the friction to keep the lug nuts tight. The wax will act like a permanent lubricant and they could work loose while you are driving the car later.
Go with PB Blaster and a torch. It works every time.
Another thing to try is smack the nut with a hammer to break the corrosion loose. Use an old deep socket that is just large enough to clear the stud as a punch.
We use our mechanic.
RADIOATIONMAN/HAM/CB/AM/FM/SSB is right. Kroil penetrating oil FTW. Oh, and use anti-seize!
And if you have swollen nuts:

Kroil
Rattlewrench.
The video that autoplays right after this one has a guy complaining that he soaked a part in PB blaster overnight. Nothing.
Wouldn’t budge. He snapped one bolt.
Wax trick worked in 2 minutes.
Be stubborn and naysayers, I don’t GAS>
Also, good luck soaking overnight when you’re on the side of highway with a flat and a lug nut that won’t budge.
You’ll wish you had a candle and lighter in the trunk.
If my nuts weren’t continually oiled and jeweled they would be rusty.
Don’t let them get that rusty in the first place.
I’ve changed thousands of lug nuts, broken many sockets and a few 4-ways like the one he’s using in the video.
Torch, hammer, and WD-40 or Liquid Wrench has usually worked for me.
I’ve had to cut a few off of diesel truck wheels with a torch. Those fockers get tight, especially when the last a$$hole who installed them had a better 1″ impact gun than you with more psi behind it.
When you change the dualies on the drive axles of diesel trucks, sometimes the inner nut loosens as you are trying to remove the outer nuts and you end up with a big clusterfock. You get the outer wheel off but the inner and outer nuts are still locked together on the rim. And about the only way to get the cokesukers off is with a cutting torch and some choice cuss words. I could write a book on mechanic cussing techniques.
Keeping out of this – when I saw the headline, my mind immediately dove into the gutter 🙂
the worst scenario is rusted nuts on boat trailer tires that get regularly dunked in saltwater. The best way to prevent it from happening in the first place is Anti-Seize.
I use Anti-Seize on my truck’s tires too.
The candle trick works on aluminum, too. Vintage Jap Bike Owner.
Mansfield Lovell, that is some good stuff. We used that on diesel trucks.
