The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced on social media that it has ordered the cancellation of over 200,000 credit cards that were being used by federal agencies.

As reported by Fox News, the statement on DOGE’s X account declared that it had carried out a “pilot program with 16 agencies to audit unused/unneeded credit cards.”

“After 3 weeks, >200,000 cards have been de-activated,” the statement revealed. “Great progress this past week by @HHSGov [U.S. Department of Health and Human Services] @Interior [U.S. Department of the Interior].”

The advisory board, which is led by Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk, further explained that despite the massive cuts, there were still at least 4.6 million cards and accounts that remained active across multiple federal agencies. These 4.6 million cards were used in at least 90 million unique transactions, thus amounting to approximately $40 billion in spending in fiscal year 2024. Read more
