Ah, Mr Hat . . . you’re going waaay obscure on us.
However, some of us know (or you reminded me) of Enoch Powell and his famous “Rivers of Blood” speech.
I did have to speed up some sludgy brain cells on this one.
My third party is going to be the Enoch Powell Party.
It won’t be so obscure.
There’s a doc on Powell going up tonight.
I urge everyone to watch it.
Okaaaaayyyyy….
And his participation in British politics signifies…..?
3) profit?
Where’s the doc on Powell coming up? And when?
within the hour
“White Lightning, White Lightning, this is Ground Beef Control! Do you read me? Over.”
“I read only good books. Over.”
“Ho, ho ho! You must be waaaaay out there Pastor!! Over.”
“I’m high all right! But not on false drugs!! I’m high on the REAL thing! Powerful gasoline! A clean windshield! And a shoeshine!
Over.”
…
Ayn Rand saw it too.
Paul Ryan is moments away from becoming Wesley Mouch.
And when he still was a Wisonsin, he cited Atlas Shrugged as his touchstone.
In life, if you’re not careful, you never know which character you’ll be, I guess.
In referring to prescience, not race, per se.
Powell is a very complicated character. His politics do not translate very well into American politics because he was a tory, which doesn’t really apply to us (unless the left wants to anoint Obama King.) He also wasn’t above playing politics, willing to punish entire parties for making decisions he personally couldn’t be on board with. If his party left him he left the party.
Admirable, but also makes him a bit of a wild card.
But his views on immigration, however, were spot on.
And it’s only this part of Powell I’m promoting.
He was virtually alone and hung out to dry when he took his stand against immigration in the UK.
And he nailed all the reasons for its danger. It wasn’t a dislike of brown people, it was the absurdity of multiculturalism that he warned everyone about.
Encouraging people not to assimilate and to create ghettoes is a recipe for disaster. He knew it, and that was when they were taking in only 50k immigrants a year.
No one listened to him.
There is currently a bit of a Powell revival going on, and I encourage it.
Powell had the same problem Goldwater did – as Heinlein observed – “Being right too soon is socially unacceptable.”
And disastrous to all concerned.
As long as you don’t make posters of “Tommy Robinson.”
Dude looks like Heisenberg…
When Americans think of Tories, they think of the Revolutionary War, when the the American colonists fought the Tories (loyalists to the crown) for Independence.
I think (?) the modern definition of Tory is equivalent to a Conservative, who strongly defends the historical greatness of Britain (as in Great Britain), and the beneficial, civilizing effects that the British Empire brought to the world.
Churchill was a Tory/Conservative, became Liberal for a few years before WW I, and then went back to being Conservative. When the sun never set on the British Empire and the Brits explored the world, they understood very well that all cultures are not ‘equal.’
