Everybody Hates Bezos

Daily Caller: There’s A Newfound Hatred Of Silicon Valley.

For quite a long time, Silicon Valley was the angelic, do-no-wrong industry, adamantly supported by people on the left end of the political spectrum, presumably due to the tech companies’ enormous economic contributions to society, but also more likely because their respective leaders often espouse like-minded ideals.

Now, as the corporations’ individual and collective power perpetually grows to almost unprecedented levels, so too does liberals’ dislike for Silicon Valley.

“Make This Amazon Charade Illegal,” reads one headline from the outlet Splinter (a part of the Gizmodo Media Group), referring to Amazon’s bid to find the best suitor for its second headquarters colloquially known as “HQ2.”

“This is all fucked,” the author wrote of the situation.

Not to be outdone, a headline from the same site reads, “All the Thirsty Shit Cities Are Doing to Woo Amazon,” which aptly points out that some cities, like Stonecrest, G.A., are more than willing to bend over backwards for the corporation. The town offered to sector off part of its land so Amazon could essentially create its own city, and appoint CEO Jeff Bezos its unelected mayor. Georgia as a state is including the prospect of Amazon choosing the capital of Atlanta as its HQ2 location in many policy debates typically considered outside the bounds of concern for a tech company’s investment, according to details outlined by The Wall Street Journal.  read more

  1. Seattlelites b*tch about Amazon endlessly. They blame it for the booming economy and rising home prices which to lefties means they can blame Amazon for income inequity and homelessness. Think of all the tech workers with their 100k salaries paying crazy state/local/sales taxes that support lefties pet causes. I just don’t know what they want-a dire economy of no growth or jobs? I follow a site on FB called Banishing Seattle because a lot of old school places are getting bulldozed in the building boom and I want to see what old haunts are going/home. I lost my affection for Seattle not because of Amazon or the building boom-I lost it because of the crazy lefties that infest everything around here.

  2. Most of the liberal-run big cities are not in the running for Amazon’s 2nd headquarters because, well, they are liberal-run big cities. Bezos is a hypocrite, but he isn’t stupid.

Yeah, I know that New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are nominally on the final list, but this is probably just a public relations ploy. Amazon knows that if it puts its second hub in a liberal city, or really anywhere in loony California, it’s just a matter of time before those politicians and unions take aim at the company. Hmmm…California, Illinois or New York – what sane company is going to invest billions in either of these states?

These liberal writers know this, so they’re just taking shots at Amazon before their pet liberal jurisdictions are spurned.

  3. I think HQ2 will be in Texas. I think Austin and Dallas are in the running still. Whole Foods corporate is in Austin. Friendly taxes and plenty of wide open spaces to build. One thing about HQ2 is that they want to give workers a different environment and culture than Seattle-so less rain, more sun, warmer not cooler. Also maybe, less lefties per square mile.

  4. If there is a conservative CITY left in this country I’d like to know about it. And beware to states that import masses of leftists into their bosom. Trojan horsey ride anyone?

  5. Amazon has a big warehouse just south of Commiefagjunkyaustin in San Marcos. I don’t want anymore commies outside of its quarantine zone infesting Texas. Robots in a warehouse are okay, smelly commies with too much money are not.
