A University of Utah comparative physiologist believes that the human hand evolved its shape over generations not just to grasp tools but to be able to punch without breaking bones in the hand.
Using cadaver arms the researchers swung different hand configurations at a padded dumbbell to see which protected the hand better (clinched fist, unclenched fist, open handed).
This is the same researcher who last year published a paper declaring that the human face evolved to be able to take a punch.
I didn’t see any suggestions on how best to apply this research to the real world.
Any old boxer can tell you that secret. And I’ll bet money they didn’t find it.
I kinda wanna start a face punch study right now. Maybe I can get a grant and start in DC
This makes the assumption that evolution is actually more than just an unprovable gap-filled hypothesis.
Personally, if you’re going to hit someone in the face with your hand, use the heel of your hand. Or brass knuckles.
You’ve just removed the final barrier I had from punching libtards in the mug!
We should apply for a grant to research if progtards are better evolved to take a kick in the nuts or a punch from a fist wrapped around a roll of nickles.
When I was young, last week, I had an opportunity to train with some ex sparring partners of Smoking Joe Frazier. I was a bad ass wrestler and figured hey, I bet I’m a bad ass boxer too. And I was right. Nobody can block left jabs with their face better than me. But one of these instructors was an older black gentleman that was only interested in teaching the sweet science. The secret to not busting your hand on a hard punch is you throw it unclenched and clench at impact. That’s also the secret to speed. That hard to replicate with dead people. I’m hoping there are a few old bad assed out there that learned this.
Epic beard guy (remember him?) knows how to do it
