(Headline USA) Eric Greitens, the retired Navy SEAL officer who rose quickly to become Missouri governor before scandal forced him out of office just a year and a half into his tenure, announced Monday that he will run for the Senate seat being vacated by fellow Republican Roy Blunt.
The announcement by Greitens, 46, came 14 days after Blunt said he would not seek a third term in 2022.
A number of potential Republican candidates initially showed interest in replacing Blunt in heavily Republican Missouri, but the GOP field is narrowing.
Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe on Monday said he will instead campaign for governor in 2024, and early favorite Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft announced shortly after Blunt’s decision that he would not pursue the Senate bid.
Other potential candidates include Republican Attorney General Eric Schmitt and several of Missouri’s U.S. representatives.
“My sense is that the Republican Party has probably sent a clear message to all potential candidates for Blunt’s seat that they want to consolidate their efforts behind one candidate, and a candidate that will be successful,” Webster University political scientist Bill Hall said. read more
If St. Louis uses Dominion, Greintens has already lost and knows it. Millions in unspent campaign donations will fund his comfortable retirement.
He seems like a solid guy, I hope he wins.
With the exception of the pinko Adm GWB gave stars to twice; SEALS are solid men ! As were the Frogmen before them!
I have known Manny starting with Cliff W – Froggy killed by Chinese 9/63.
GWB’s Marxist Adm would retire to be held of the same super liberal UT bonehead Jeb attendee! Coincidence? HARDLY
I never understood why he stepped down. Why in the world would you step down because of an accusation you knew was false? My guess is that every politician gets them, upstanding citizen or not.
I’m not there and can’t vote in that election, but if I were I would be looking at the character he has already displayed and ask myself if that is someone I wanted to represent me and the things I believe in.
I don’t vote for the lesser of evils anymore, if there is no one I want I just cancel my vote (to keep anyone else from using it) by marking all of them in.
Greitens was a Democrat turned Republican who had affairs while in office.
Greitens talks smoothly, but something just ain’t right there and I would look elsewhere for the nominee.
