Fake News Network Getting Sued For Defamation

 

I would imagine the news outlets are threatened all the time with lawsuits for their destruction of the careers and livelihoods of those they target, but this case is different. David Carbone vs. Cable News Network is the standard for bringing such a case against the media.  This one will most likely end up before the supreme court and could put an end to the individual anti-SLAPP  statues that protects the media in many states.

  1. I think it’s hilarious how so many people outright hate the media that there are already hundreds of celebratory comments at the linked Hollywood Reporter site, and there will be many many comments posted here.

  2. If a “News” outlet reports on a story and uses facts, and I do mean that word in its strictest sense, they should be protected from people that were embarrassed by facts that expose them as the shit weasels they are.

    But when the same media puts some spin on information to juice things up, make it dramatic in their breathless blurbs of “Up Next!”, and goes beyond the facts, make ’em liable for that.

    All the networks are loaded to the gills with ersatz drama on their programming lineup (which is why I mostly never watch TV)but that doesn’t mean news programs should follow suit.

    A long time ago, ‘reporting the news’ actually meant something. If it comes back, I believe it will require medieval measures to get them there.
