So you brandish a gun, putting the clerk in fear of his life demanding money, and then you are shot dead by said clerk who was in fear of his life. As a young man I had a black girlfriend who had a half brother that died in an armed robbery, The grieving family was beside themselves so with no way to pay for a funeral another half brother was going to rob a liquor store to get money for the funeral, I kid you not. I got out of there.

In our neck of the woods we had a white kid with his buddies who decided to break in and rob houses, they broke into the wrong house and he was shot and killed by the homeowner. His father and grandfather wouldn’t shut up forever whining that nothing in that house was dying over and he wasn’t going to hurt anyone and wasn’t even armed.
Well they had knives, crowbars and ball bats. Regardless though if 3 guys break into your house you’re not going to ask them their age and if they have weapons.
Then there was a 15 year old kid who got shot in the wee hours of the morning. The kids and their parents first claimed they were just prank knocking and wanted the homeowner’s son to fry for shooting their precious little boy. I said from the time I heard it, yeah as a kid I knocked on doors although we called it something else. The idea though was to knock, run and hide and laugh when they came to the door. We didn’t try to pry open doors and windows and we didn’t do it at 2 in the morning. That guy though was charged because he shot the kid in the yard. Thankfully, this year a jury found him not guilty.
The boy survived and ended up later in jail because he didn’t learn his lesson the first time and was caught burglarizing other homes.

If the deceased had stepped off the roof of ten story building falling to his death, his family would be whining about the law of gravity. Saying. “It wasn’t entirely his fault. Gravity shouldn’t have done that to him.”
