Curious as to how they determined specific swatting uses if it was a “recent discovery”. Could it be used? Sure! Was it used? TBD. Why the specific example of MTG given?

The cards were in rows of 32 x 16
512 SIM cards per device
16 Antennas per device
1 CAT 10 Ethernet per device
Another room had 8 or 10 unknown boxes that could be headless servers, but probably not. All the devices were powered off 1 120v electrical outlet. There is no way if the units were doing any intensive CPU processing.
They probably are something like controller boxes for the cards outside comms. Maybe the Op was setup to record every cell phone that came into its coverage zone and clone the SIM details to blank SIM cards.
Another possibility is racks of actual valid SIMS that are used in a massive link farming re-directs for ad revenue and skimming sales to the really big farms like amazon and googs.
It is too commercial looking to be some nefarious DOS attack. This has more the look of some kind of money farming or SIM cloning. IMO.
