FBI’s Facial Recognition Database Is ‘Out of Control’

Breitbart: The facial recognition database used by the FBI is “out of control,” according to a new report by The Guardian.

“Approximately half of adult Americans’ photographs are stored in facial recognition databases that can be accessed by the FBI, without their knowledge or consent, in the hunt for suspected criminals,” reported The Guardian on Monday. “About 80% of photos in the FBI’s network are non-criminal entries, including pictures from driver’s licenses and passports. The algorithms used to identify matches are inaccurate about 15% of the time, and are more likely to misidentify black people than white people.”

“These are just some of the damning facts presented at last week’s House oversight committee hearing, where politicians and privacy campaigners criticized the FBI and called for stricter regulation of facial recognition technology at a time when it is creeping into law enforcement and business,” they continued.

During the committee hearing, chairman Jason Chaffetz praised the positives of using facial recognition technology before also raising concerns about some of the more negative potential uses.  more

  1. I hope they got the view from my right…it’s my best side. The last time I got my drivers license the gal said I looked like Jeff Bridges in true grit….One eyed fat man has never been my goal…

  2. I used to trust the government.
Then Obama and his Leftist henchmen took over and ruined things, turned the government against us citizens, proving you cannot trust the government.

  3. I’m so overly documented by so many systems and programs,
I could really not give a rat’s ass about what new
data they collect from camera on me.

They sure enough ain’t getting shit from me on
fakebook, myspace or any of that other shit either.

  4. Four months ago I had to renew my driver’s license. Instead of just taking my picture, and laminating it. I had to stop at a digital photo station, then go to a second station and wait for the license to be printed. When I asked wth is going on I was told my photo would be sent to some database. Why? We don’t know it’s just a new requirement. If I recall correctly, she said it was required by DHS. wtf ?

I wasn’t happy with this process. Plus. My bet is this isn’t done to the “Muzzie refugees” the government is bringing into the country. And not to catch & release illegals that cross the border.

  5. This is all being done so when the next terrorist event happens, the authorities can match (what’s left of) the perp to the drivers license, and claim they don’t know the motive. In microseconds.
