Federal Lab Ignored Environmental Data Manipulation For YEARS

DailyCaller: U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) officials knew about environmental data manipulation for years before they stopped the manipulation or notified scientists who may have used phony information, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation has found.

A USGS analyst resigned while under investigation for data manipulation from 1996 to 2008, but another analyst continued that distortion until 2014. But agency officials learned data was manipulated as early as 2004 when scientists found “test results did not make sense” and “were not accurate,” according to a Department of the Interior inspector general (IG) audit published 11 years later.

  1. I have a friend who worked for a university lab studying global warming. His boss, the head of the project, was enraged when he found out about the fake data. All his work was ruined and invalid because he used their faked numbers.

The initial research data was fine and the work my friend did was not in vain, but the results were crap. I’m sure they used the valid research, but no way could it be salvaged without the correct data. I don’t know what happened because my friend moved on before the emails (Climategate) came out showing that they “hid the decline”:

  2. Well, if the the data doesn’t support your theory, invent some that does.

It’s clear to anyone with half a brain (excludes all lefties), that if there is no official response to data manipulation, then said manipulation must be officially sanctioned. It’s also clear they were hoping that the conditions changed, thus allowing their new “pure” data, to hide the made-up data. True believers on a quest to “prove” their beliefs with science, made up on not.

    Pitiful.

  3. Data “manipulation” is pretty widespread in Academia and de rigueur in gov’t.

From the 80s when “every data point must be explained” to the present “4.8% unemployment rate” when 90+ million people are unemployed, we have experienced a rapid decline in scientific methodology and a concomitant rise in scientific mendacity. Both gov’t and Academic (financed by that same gov’t) “scientists” understand the vast financial and pecuniary differences between “politically correct” results and scientific results. “Which side of the bread the butter is on” – so to speak.
