Feeling Small? What Until You See How Big the Milky Way Is

  1. Nope. It’s settled science that your individual consumption not only affects earth, but the entire Milky Way and the universe as a whole. Properly sorting your trash will ensure distant solar systems won’t end in catastrophe. A single aluminum can in the aluminum bin saves the lives of 1400 quadrillion distant intelligent lifeforms and at least 3 polar bears.

  2. What if the entire milky way was inside a drop of water…
Remember boys & girls, there is no such thing in space physics
as too small or too big…..

  3. Douglass Adams covered this;

“The total perspective vortex derives its picture of the whole Universe on the principle of extrapolated matter analyses.

To explain – since every piece of matter in the Universe is in some way affected by every other piece of matter in the Universe, it is in theory possible to extrapolate the whole of creation – every sun, every planet, their orbits, their composition and their economic and social history from, say, one small piece of fairy cake.

The man who invented the Total Perspective Vortex did so basically to annoy his wife.

Trin Tragula – for that was his name – was a dreamer, a thinker, a speculative philosopher or, as his wife would have it, an idiot.

And she would nag him incessantly about the utterly inordinate amount of time he spent staring out into space, or mulling over the mechanics of safety pins, or doing spectrographic amalyses of pieces of fairy cake.

“Have some sense of proportion!” she would say, sometimes as often as thirty-eight times in a single day.

And so he built the Total Perspective Vortex – just to show her.

And into one end he plugged the whole of reality as extrapolated from a single piece of fairy cake, and into the other end he plugged his wife: so that when he turned it on she saw in one instant the whole infinity of creation and herself in relation to it.

To Trin Tragula’s horror, the shock completely annihilated her brain; but to his satisfaction he realised that he had proved conclusively that if life is going to exist in a Universe of this siz, then the one thing it cannot afford to have is a sense of proportion.”

  4. The Universe and beyond is for our wonderment, it’s a reminder of who our Creator is. They’re wasting their time on getting off this planet, God won’t allow it. Heck, he destroyed kingdoms on earth due to sin, we are bound to this earth until we all see Jesus coming in the clouds of glory. The fool says in their heart there is no God.

  5. Galaxies were discovered less that 100 years ago, in 1930. So, we’re just getting started figuring them out.

And now they’re speculating that there are trillions of dark, rogue planets wandering around out there, all with no star.

  6. …Also Douglas Adams…

“Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.”
-Douglas Adams, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”

  7. …one last observation by Douglas Adams: the population of the Universe is zero.

    Statistically speaking, we don’t exist.

    …let him explain…

“It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.”
-Douglas Adams, “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe”

…so, can we have your liver, then?

“I don’t know if the live liver donor was the grossest scene in The Meaning of Life next to Mr. Creosote. ”

…Mr. Creosote gets MY vote. I hate puke MUCH worse than blood personally, but that’s just me…

  9. More importantly, everything is the divine..including all of us. There is nothing beyond the divine and nothing other than the divine. We do not recognize this truth because we are attached to the belief in the self-contraction that pretends to define the separate reality we think exists.

  10. “In view of such harmony in the cosmos which I, with my limited human mind, am able to recognize, there are yet people who say there is no God. But what makes me really angry is that they quote me for support of such views.” – Albert Einstein

I see God in every blade of grass.

  11. There is no point trying to comprehend things like this. You can’t and attempting it will lead to madness. Just accept that it is, and move on with your life.

    “… ‘little brains’?”
“that’s what we call you behind your backs …. hehehe.”

cute movie, one of my favorites, in the ‘The Meaning of Life’ vein
live your life well … & pass on
