Firefighters Rescue Family in SUV Stuck in San Francisco Sinkhole

A broken sewer line that dates back to 1875 caused the sinkhole.

NBC: Firefighters rescued a family inside an SUV that got stuck in a sinkhole in San Francisco’s South of Market District Tuesday.

Officials said a broken sewer line caused the 12 feet long by 5 feet wide sinkhole to form on Mission Street, between New Montgomery and 2nd Street. The sinkhole is 9 feet deep, according to officials. more

  1. And now the family can go back to just living in a shithole.

    Back in the 80s, I unhooked a 40 ft. trailer, cranked down the landing gear, and hours after the truck pulled out from under it, it sunk all the way down to the ground. Had a hell of a time pulling it out of that small sinkhole with our big wrecker.

    Those things could be anywhere. but San Francisco is probably one of the best places to have them.

    Where’s the drama it that? You can’t be a special snowflake on the 6 O’clock news if you solve your own problems. Now it’s documented and they get to sue the city for mental anguish.
