Officer.com: Josh Stambaugh, one of eight Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies who heard gunshots but did not immediately try to confront the gunman at the Parkland school shooting, was put on restricted duty Thursday.
Stambaugh is the third deputy the agency has placed under investigation for inaction during the massacre of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14.
Each of those investigations began more than nine months after the shooting, despite repeated criticism of the agency’s slow response at the scene.
The 24-year agency veteran, who made $151,954 in 2017, was working an off-duty shift at a nearby school when he responded to reports of shots fired at Stoneman Douglas.
Stambaugh got out of his truck, went to the back of it to put on his bulletproof vest and then took cover for about five minutes after hearing the shots, according to body camera footage.
His next move was not into the school, but instead to get back into his truck and drive to a nearby highway. That trip took over five minutes and thirty seconds, a state commission investigating the law enforcement response found. more
There will be no justice in this. Was anyone told to stand down?
When you make $150k a year, you’ve got obligations.
There’s the house that’s too big, a $70k truck you’ll never work, the boat payment and the $3500 you just deposited on an all inclusive cruise. Don’t forget the side bitch’s rent is coming due next Thursday. You need to work 8hrs overtime to cover that this weekend, because you haven’t saved a dime.
That’s a lot of pressure to not get shot.
So now at least they can “move on”….
Sumthin tells me that there is a lot more to this than meets the eye.
You have fourteen students and three staff members killed and all the fall guy gets is restricted duty??
This disgusts me, in the extreme. I hope he is shamed and humiliated for the rest of his life.
He was no Ronal Singh. ….Lady in Red
For years LEO’s have been saying “WE deserve to go home” and people are surprised when their actions confirm the truth of the statement.
I think the guy should be forced to hide under a desk and listen to the screams of terrified children as they are getting shot by a armed fetal alchohol case* — you know, the penalty that hundreds of kids endured because he failed to do his his job
*(my best guess as to what the shooter’s underlying problem was)
He should have been fired immediately for negligence of duty. $152,000 a year?!!! I’m willing to bet that he and other overpaid public employees provide healthy kickbacks to the local corrupt democrat politicians.
Restricted duty??!! So he’ll make 100K+ a year picking up the donuts for morning roll-call?
Yeah,,,, that’ll show him.

Yeah…I’m sure these ‘warriors’ had that on their mind, too. Home to beer, pretzels, and carnal relations. /s

$152K! Damn! Another fat, bullethead, worthless POS posing as a cop sucking off the public teat. I wonder how many people this idiot bullied in the seven days prior to this incident. Police departments all over this nation are full of rat bastards like this. You’d think for that kind of money, they could get better people than this. This situation won’t get any better until bad cops are held to account for their actions. I don’t expect any cop to enter into a suicide mission, but to not respond to children being slaughtered in a school is simply unforgivable. The man is a coward and should spend time in prison. People are arrested all the time for failing to render aid. How can this stand? What is the protocol, wait until the shooter runs out of ammo and he walks out with his hands in the air?
@Woody By the way, I accidentally gave your post a thumbs up.
Maybe they should only hire combat vets who actually saw live action. Other wise you’ll never know what you’re paying for.
A couple things to think about: most PDs want cops with average/low-average IQ. They don’t want guys who think out situations; they might not enforce every stupid revenue-law.
Whenever it is suggested that the same rules of engagement soldiers must follow in dealing with civilians in combat zones be applied to cops dealing with US citizens, the police unions freak. Imagine a cop not being allowed to call you a mother fucker, tell you to shut the fuck up, or to get on your fucking knees? OUR cops consider that an infringement on their authority, but soldiers get punished for it. Soldiers are also obligated to protect non-combatants. Cops have to go home at night.
Gov’t Employee (gulp!) Disciplined?!!
He stood around while people died? I guess good Samaritan laws don’t apply to those who are also paid and sworn to protect us.
Gee, will he get a cushy desk duty job for a couple of months to teach him a lesson, until all this blows over?
$150,000 is more than many busy doctors make. How did this salary get so high? I don’t hold that cops are automatically heros , in fact I don’t have any use for most of them. And yes, I have been in bad circumstances in which a cop would help, but they ran off.
*Yawn* Get back to me when Petersen is the deputy in the hot seat.
I’m thinking Deputy Josh should be disciplined for a Porkland response…
Better a live dog than a dead lion, right?
