According to the Brevard County sheriff’s office, a man was detained on Sunday for allegedly brandishing an 18-inch machete at a bar after being told he couldn’t perform another karaoke performance.
The incident happened at Kennedys Lamp Post Pub, situated at 7822 N. Atlantic Ave. in Cape Canaveral, and deputies have charged 39-year-old Travis Jordan with breach of peace due to disorderly behavior.
A probable cause affidavit indicates that when deputies arrived at the pub on Sunday afternoon about 2:00, they discovered Jordan staggering around inside with bloodshot and glassy eyes and a heavy odor of alcohol on his person.
A witness told deputies that Jordan brandished a machete he had hidden after being refused permission to perform another karaoke song. According to the affidavit, a lady was so concerned for the safety of others that she calmly convinced the suspect to give up the machete.
According to the affidavit, Jordan, who confessed using the machete, told deputies he had been threatened days before and had to “keep vigilant” to defend himself, but that he was not in danger the night he got it out.
Apparently he thought it was open wound night, not open mic night.
