  1. BRAVO to the Deputy! I remember a friend back in Up State NY sold his crotch rocket to the parents of a 16 year old kid for his birthday. He went to ride the bike home but didn’t make it alive. He wound it up and blew into a concrete wall at about 90 mph.
    Thinning the herd.

  2. He was a minor, so I’m not sure if the kid could have been immediately hauled to juvi. The cop was nice and respectful and tried to help a kid that made a mistake from making it again. Playstation racing is not the same as real life.

Although the kid’s an idiot, he at least seemed respectful and knew he was in trouble. The parents seemed to be respectful as well.

One can only hope that both the kid and the parents learn from this.

Not ever experiencing being a policeman, I say great job! But what do I know?

  3. I think the parents just maybe a lot tougher on him than the court. He’s going to lose his license anyway. I think the officer should have pointed out the lives he was endangering just because he wanted to be an asshole.

No Brad, the Mom had maroon colored hair tips and they don’t give a fuck whether he might be building bombs in the basement for Columbine high school. They just want him to stay away and not bother them….

  5. When I turned sixteen and finishing driver’s ed class I was ready to buy my first car. I had saved a bunch of money and I had enough for a 60’s muscle car. My Dad made me buy a 70 Dodge Dart 225 slant six auto. He said “If you want to be on my insurance you will buy this car.” Well, at least it was a 2-door “Swinger”…
I still tried to kill that car and managed to wrap it around a tree. That 225 just wouldn’t die.

The kid will just do it again….

He sure will! He’ll wind up in an urn. Maybe deep down, that’s what the parents really want. One less brat to worry about and sock money out for.

  7. While teaching my son to drive I noticed he entered turns way too fast and didn’t seem to slow down as he approached. It dawned on me that he was driving like he was playing “Mario Kart”. Playing that game made him believe he could enter turns at any speed. It took a while to break him of that habit. He’s been driving for 15 years and is yet to be in an accident (I hope this doesn’t jinx him).

  8. @Different Tim
Once I realized the vacuum advance hose had rotted off and someone had adjusted the timing way off to compensate it never broke down on me. I slammed into a tree dead center at about 35 mph and turned the front bumper into a horse shoe. We rebuilt the front end with junkyard parts. The crank pulley was bent from the impact and wobbled as the engine ran. I’m not sure how I didn’t destroy the crank bearings…

  9. I can’t say that was the most reliable. I currently have a 2008 honda pilot with 230k miles that has never missed a beat. I’m trying to reach 1/4 million but the rust is catching up…

  10. My Dad had a friend that ran a yard where wrecks and stolen cars were held until the banks settled up with the insurance companies….My Dad bought many wrecks from Sam Goldman, fixed them up and sold them for the extra money that helped our family……When I was 16 I spotted a stone 1969 Pontiac “The Judge”….Dad, “NO”….then a 1970 El Camino with a 390 and big tires on the back….Dad, “NO”….Then a Porsche Targa showed up….Dad just giggled and walked away……

  11. Jethro, best small block ever made. My opinion of course. I’m looking for a 69 Dart rolling chassis. A four speed car. I can find autos all day long. I’d like to build one more hot rod up before I pack it in.

  12. Your dad was smart. Fast cars and teenagers are a recipe for disaster. My youngest brother once won a 69 Ford Torino with a 429 Cobra jet engine in in a poker game with some of his buddies. The car scared the hell out of him because it had so much power that he was forced to get rid of it. He should’ve kept the engine though, those 429’s are worth a lot of money.

  13. One of my son’s first trips out as a new driver was in the winter. Main street was dry, but the side streets were ice. I could see he was coming into the corner to fast. I calculated our trajectory and knew we would miss the fire hydrant and stop sign, and end up in the snow bank.
I just stayed quite. We landed in the snow bank and he was just frozen at the wheel. I poked him in the shoulder and said, “I’d try reverse about now”.
It was a learn by doing occasion.

  14. OT but related…..I’ve got a 1997 Dodge 1500 short bed, extra cab 4×4 with les then 68K miles. 360 magnum engine, 5 speed manual, maroon and silver, almost new Michelins. A dent in the front bumper, two in the back bumper and 1 in the tail gate….It’s a one owner dandy…..It’s for sale if someone’s interested…..

  15. I was fortunate enough to spend my pre-teen years working in my uncle’s pit crew, as much as I could at 12. I learned first-hand what speed and power were….even more important was respect for the same. Hell, it was the same racing uncle that taught me to drive stick. To this day, I still have no citations.

  16. ^^^^ nice post Loco. I bought it from a friend who was settling an estate for a guy who is dying from dementia. That guy is my age, probably near yours. I gave a fair price for it to help the family and am asking a fair price for my investment…..

  17. Up here in Toronto that is a separate charge called Street Racing (50 K/hr Over even if you are alone)
    Generally:
IMPOUNDED with TOW, STORAGE, FINES, COURT, DEMERIT POINTS.
at 16 he would also be on a Conditional Licence with results in a 2 year DRIVING BAN for Serious Road Violations.
$5-7,000 generally at minimum + Lawyer etc.

Driving 20K/hr for example is just a basic fine with none of the above.

  18. Brad, I luv ya but MODERN PARENTS are NOT TOUGH on their Kids.

I would bet that they get a lawyer, negotiate the thing Down, Claim the radar was not properly calibrated & settle for “Guilty at __ Mph Over”
I’m not sure at what speed it drops down to simple speeding or if that is a possible charge in that state.

    Cheers!

    Modern parents are enablers.

  19. Thanks JB!
Kcir, I really cannot fathom how the car was not towed.
It was an accessory to a serious crime.
That asshole football player was going that fast here in Vegas last year wrecked an ruined lives.
Tore the car he hit in half and created an inferno.
Killed a poor woman and her dog.

IDGAF how old this kid was, his ass needed to be scared straight.
    At least overnight in jail.
The car should have been impounded and sold at auction.
He will likely kill an entire family some day heading to Disney World.

  20. @ Jethro…..I’m thinking about 11.5 K and I’m in north central kansas, 20 miles from Nebraska….I can send you pictures before I started detailing it…..One owner with extensive service records….

  21. @Willy
Sounds like a good deal. I thought my brother would be interested, but that’s too far from where we live in Maryland. I’m sure there is somebody in Kansas who will love it.

  22. I knew a guy in high school that had a new 911 Carrera 4s with all wheel drive. They were filthy rich obviously. He got a ticket doing 85, but he told stories of doing 100+ at other times. His dad sold it and got him new truck instead.
High school aged guys don’t need fast cars….you are rolling the dice if you give a kid a fast car.
