Flu Shot Misses The Mark This Year

Live Science

There’s more bad news about the flu: The main strain of flu that’s circulating right now doesn’t exactly match what’s in this year’s flu shot, according to a new report.

However, the strain in the vaccine may still be close enough to offer some protection, officials said.

The news comes amid a particularly severe flu season in the U.S.; the season started early, and it’s unclear if flu activity has peaked yet. More

  1. I got nailed with flu once, at Christmas 1999 and it didn’t let up til mid-February 2000 and even then full health wasn’t back until late April; I thought death was certain. That’s what I get for living city center of Chicago at the time. Haven’t had so much as a common cold since leaving that shithole.

  2. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Typhoid Fever spread by the nation’s homeless will make seasonal flu a walk in the park.

When you get it, you won’t be posting on the InterWebs.

  3. The flu shot is bullshit! The sickest I’ve been in the last 30 years was a week after getting the flu shot. That was the first and only time I’ve gotten a flu shot.

  5. Same story every year. Oops, we missed the strain. My wife teaches and never gets the flu nor the shot and she’s around those little sick kids all day whose parents recklessly send them to school anyway.

  6. The sickest I have even been has been after I have gotten flu shots; four times, IIRC. I have only been sick that much once that I don’t think I had a shot, that was the London Flu in 1973. I refuse to get a flu shot now. I honestly think it would kill me.

But they did the caccine for the wrong strain? Don’t they do that almost every time?

  7. $4,225,000,000 (169M x $25)
    From the CDC:
Flu vaccine is produced by private manufacturers, so supply depends on manufacturers. For the 2019-2020 season, manufacturers have projected they will provide as many as 162 million to 169 million doses of flu vaccine, which is similar to projected supply for last season.

    From Manfacturers web site:
    Sanofi Pasteur, Inc.
Sanofi awarded $226 million by US government.

How much do the hospitals make?
    Hit or Miss vaccine.

  8. They often repeat the shot strains year after year.
I know that getting repeat vaccinations too soon
for a lot of disease types can give you a bad reaction.
I have concluded after 2 years of not getting the shot
and not getting the flu, I will keep avoiding the shot.

  9. Don’t go to the airport to pick up travelers coming back from a cruise, have them stay over your house for the night to be on there way the next morning.

That’s how it got me, low grade fever, consistent chills, but that was it. Lasted four days, just enough to slog to work, with almost fainting in church in the back aisle last night!

Mrs. G had to get water, saved my ass.

Have gotten this level of flu in four years and no I do not get a flu shot.
