14-year-old Jerika Bolen died yesterday after entering Hospice care to have her ventilator stopped.
Of her decision to end her life “When I decided, I felt extremely happy and sad at the same time,” Jerika said in July. “There were a lot of tears, but then I realized I’m going to be in a better place, and I’m not going to be in this terrible pain.”
May God bless her and take her into his care. In my opinion, voluntary removal of life support is not suicide.
God has blessed Jerika’s family with a strong, beautiful, loving, intelligent and wonderful young lady. May they be blessed each and everyday with the happiest memories of their exceptional daughter, Jerika, who touched so many lives.
She rests in the arms of Jesus.
What more could any of us ask?
i’m sure she would have preferred a miraculous healing. She was stronger than any of us.
Tony R – agreed: there is a massive difference between unplugging life support and plugging in life taking drugs.
Poor kid. RIP Jerika. I still feel bad for your little dog, though…he can’t understand.
We are poorer without her. Her resolution, and her daring are to be admired, especially in one so young.
Fly well.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
I wish her all there is to offer, fly girl, fly.
You’re broken body is gone, you’re spirit is in its new home. We are all here for as long as we’re supposed to be.
