For Flag Day, Let’s Live Up To Our Republic’s Values

Wa Examiner:

By Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH)

The American flag was born amid a revolution.

It was stitched together by the fingers of Philadelphian seamstress Betsy Ross, legend has it, and confirmed by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, as the colonies were still besieged by British forces in the struggle for autonomy and self-determination.

Today, we hang it in our schools and fly it in our front yards, but it began as a battle flag. Freedom never comes without a cost, without struggle or sacrifice.

Our flag has evolved since those early days. Between 1777 and 1960, Congress passed laws several times to change the arrangement of the flag and add stars to the design with the admission of each new state.

In the same way, our country has evolved and must continue to evolve. Part of the legacy of the American dream is that each generation works to create a better future for their children. We strive to leave the country in the next generation’s hands a little better than how we found it: more prosperous and more peaceful, yes, but also more free. Our founding document commits every generation to working towards “a more perfect Union.” more

  1. I occasionally wear Trump wear. Hats, Tee Shirts. I’ve never had anybody say shit to me. But I have a Trijicon “send it” hat with the original 13 colony flag on it and had some old lady at Home Depot tell me how offensive it was. I told er in no uncertain terms to move to FING Venezuela then.
I’ll wear it today. Sunday Gunday.

  2. Sadly, we’ve lost half our country, and an entire generation of young college people who have become snowflake zombies – violent ones, too.

With the changes happening so swiftly and with such weird, fascist effect, our country will never be the same. It’s best to recongnize that. I’ve felt this was coming for quite some time, after watching the leftist indoctrination enter inton our schools (I’m in a unique position to see it.)

I think we should start considering breaking America into two countries, where both sides will be happy to pursue the destinies they envision, and create a situation where there is no violence involved and no bad feelings afterwards.

Of course the democat nation will turn into a fascist jungle in a short time, and only bezos, gates, pelosi and gang will have any food. But that’s okay, it won’t be our problem.

But in the New America (our nation), it’ll be beautiful: low crime, harsh punishment for criminals, teaching or advocating communism and fasicsm will be, illegal, capitalism will be mandated, corruption punishable harshly, full freedom to own guns and carry them, low taxes, low regulation, and so on – all mandated by our revised Constitution.

Think about it. We can never meet communists half-way. Ever. It would mean we are half-communist. That’s not the way we want to live.

  3. How about this celebrating Flag Day:

Hillary Clinton lost her appeal, order stands to testify on private server and Benghazi emails:

  4. For today, at least, I’ve got a bluebird on my shoulder.

(And I can’t get the melody out of my head!)

It’s flag day, the President’s birthday, and the sun is out in Northwest Juneuary!

  5. It’s going to be rather hard to find large numbers of people agreeing on what our Republic’s values are today.

It’s hard to even find a large enough population that considers us a Republic to get that expressed with public unity.

We are an irreconcilably divided nation, one that will be marked more by conflict than agreed common values in the future.

I agree to a point. Many red states have dark blue metropolitan centers. We would have to have 30 or 40 separate countries or else mass forced deportations. I vote for the later.
