The Ford Motor Company is attempting to patent a camera system that reports speeding vehicles to authorities.
According to WXIN, a patent application was filed by Ford titled “Systems and Methods for Detecting Speeding Violations.” The application was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on July 18, per the station.
Ford initially filed for the patent on January 12, 2023.

Whether they implement the technology in Ford vehicles or not, It’s a valuable patent because of the direction our country has been moving.

It’s a camera technology, so Ford vehicles (and those others who license this tech) will be reporting speeding vehicles traveling on the same way as they are; it doesn’t just report the speed of the vehicle containing the tec.

Sounds like another reason to NOT buy a new Ford car.
That is, until someone figures out a way to de-calibrate it, bypass it, or disconnect it.
Odin 2013 – It is a pretty easy calculation to figure out oncoming car speed too.

When the federal government sees that the technology is ready to be deployed and matched to an auto ticketing system, you’ll see mandates demanding every automaker install it and federal speeding tickets.
They could put a variable ‘governor’ on cars to limit your speed, or just make cars that are just unable to go fast (like a 1960s VW Van).
I drive a 2006 Duramax. Original owner. 120K miles on it. Show room. It’s a baby. However this year it can vote. Extremely reliable truck. Every time I start thinking I should buy something new I read a story like this.
Not to mention every new diesel truck is crazy expensive and they break constantly.

In a related move, Mercedes Benz is coming out with a “snitches get stitches” technology. If a Mercedes detects a Ford with a speeding violation unit, homemade and untraceable shanks are deployed to neutralize the offender. Any vehicle that attempts to track a Mercedes that uses this “snitches get stitches” technology will likewise be rendered competely and permanently inoperable.
Wild Bill, my 61 VW camper bus was pokey as all get out, it would go 60 mph for the most part and maybe a little faster when going downhill and shot out of a cannon.
When my 2014 E-250 service Van dies & My 2011 F-150 Backup dies, I’m switching to a Toyota Tundra just on the principle that they called out PURE ELECTRIC as ridiculous vs what Hybrids could do for Fuel Economy, reliability & Range.

Always drove Fords pickups for work until they got rid of the v8’s. Bought a Nissan 2500 nv with the big v8 in 2015, 220K miles on it never changed front brakes, they don’t make the van anymore. I wanted a Tundra “old body style and motor” because they screwed up the new ones. Ended up buying a new 4runner before they mess that up too switching to the turbo bullshit tiny motor. I guess if the van dies I’ll drag my tools around in a trailer in my way too nice 4 runner.
