Advertisers are motivated by a singular goal, and that is to turn every facet of human existence into an opportunity to show you ads.
According to a recently-published patent filed by American auto giant Ford, the latest frontier for this colonization is the inside of your car.
The company’s patent filing describes a system that would equip cars with billboard-reading sensors, allowing cars to scan roadside signs for relevant information and then display them on screens inside smart cars. For example, driving past a McDonald’s billboard would cause image and text recognition algorithms to automatically interpret the ad’s contents, like an address or phone number, and then transmit that information to your car’s dashboard display.
ht/ fdr in hell
chevy ads blasting into your ford face. nice.
They think I want that function in my car? What if it doesn’t work?
My wife’s Honda Pilot ($38k) digital compass flashes constantly and tells me I am going any-which-way. The calibration function doesn’t work. I estimate it will cost a thousand dollars for a dealer to repair it. I put a piece of black electrical tape over the flashing compass to eliminate the distraction. You have to look closely to see the tape. If I need to know which way the car is pointing I will look at my phone. If I want to know what food place is near my I will look at my phone too.
GTFOH
I damn neat T-boned a gal in a compact car that was looking at her phone just last night. Had I not been paying attention she would have messed up my truck and probably set my airbags off in my face.
Will Tesla sell a car that jumps into auto pilot and takes the exit toward the food when your stomach grumbles?
Wasn’t something similar on Minority Report? Iris scanners Taylor-made commercials for individuals.
Don’t own a cell phone. Don’t want one.
Ford used to run ads touting “Ford has a better idea.”
That was many years ago, and obviously they’ve run out of even good ideas.
An electric Mustang and F-150, plus “Auto Stop/Start” in every vehicle… don’t make me laugh.
No way. I was following a young gal 3 days ago who was watching a movie or on a zoom call at 12 o’clock in the afternoon.
She was all over the road,I stayed back from her, if she had made a lane change before I saw her at 35 MPH I would have pushed her into on coming traffic. I drive a 4,250 pound F150 she was in a 1200 pound car.
4 lane road no dividers heavy traffic parked cars on both sides
They have no clue.
