The Former Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, Mark Eves claimed Maine’s whiteness is “bad news,” while speaking to nearly one hundred activists and grassroots supporters on Wednesday evening.
The Maine People’s Alliance presented the event in Lewiston as a chance for people question the gubernatorial candidates in a bid to “make sure that our next leaders have a truly progressive vision for Maine.”
“Now, more than ever, we need progressive leaders who will work to help everyday Mainers and fight back against the racist and xenophobic rhetoric and policies coming from Washington and Augusta,” claimed the organizers.
Eves, who is a leading voice for the Maine Democrats as well as a Democrat candidate for Governor, was speaking at the event when he claimed Maine will be in trouble if it can’t attract a more diverse population.
Eves has possibly forgotten what kind of message he initially tried to spread.
In July, as he announced his bid for governor, Eves said: “I believe that is how we will start to bring together a state that can feel all too divided and build a better Maine one family at a time.”
