Found on headstone in pet cemetery

We go from our very decadent, raunchy previous post, to this. (Sorry for the moral whiplash.)

Oolook found this on a headstone and sent it in.

FRECKLES

FAITHFUL AND LOYAL,

PATIENT AND LOVING.

TRUST IN SOFT EYES,

FOREVER ADORING.

HIS BARK RESOUNDS

THROUGH HALLO OF LIGHT

BRUSHING THE HEM OF

THE ANGELIC GOWN.

STEADFAST HE STANDS ON

THE EDGE OF THE

DARKNESS, OLD FRIEND,

COME TO WELCOME ME

HOME.

  1. JustAl, there’s another Will Rogers’ quote that I is a favorite as well, “If you get to thinking you’re a person of influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.” 😉

  2. I’m on dog 6 &7…never do I appreciate them less….they helped me grow up and now thar helping me to grow old….we had a dog that I was too young to remember….his name was freckles….

  3. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

  4. Pets are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy…beer, too, but you know.

I think God created the pet to remind us, when we get lost sometimes, that their unconditional love is the type of love Jesus has for us. The older I get, the more I truly believe that. They are a gift directly from God as far as I’m concerned.

  5. Fuckin’ dogs….my Dad had a dog for 17 years….from about 10 years old until my dad was 27…..as we were moving my pop from ICU into hospice he was most happy about getting to see ‘Ginger” again….Fuckin’ dogs……

  6. @ Goodstuff- Yea, that one makes me tear up every time. So does this:

“Remember me always, but do not grieve for me too long. I have tried always to comfort you in times of sorrow, and have made every effort to add joy to your life. I never want to cause you pain. Peace for me is certain now, and I suspect I will have eternal sleep in the earth I have loved so well.
Please, after your period of grieving for me, make room in your heart for another. You are the kind of human being that should always have a friend like me to love. Your kind and gentle heart should not be wasted on my memory for too long. Give your love to another.
I know your new friend will never take my place, because we had something very special.
It may not be quite the same, but a new, devoted and loving companion will, in time, become special in their own way.
You loved me very much, and I loved you.
My spirit will always be with you, and not matter how deep my sleep, my grateful heart will always remember you.”

  7. Bman, you reminded me of something that has stuck with me for many years and whether dogs or horses. When I was a K9 handler and went through the basic with my dog, one of the instructors said something very profound about K9’s and even relating to my horses and as to why we love them so much.

What he said was, “They will always be a dog first and a K9 second. They cannot lie. They are completely honest.”

I think that is why we love the animals so much. Unlike people, our animals are always honest and they can’t lie. Oh, they’ll try and snooker you now and again, but they’re always honest.

  8. This is one of the reasons I love this site so much. So many dog/animal lovers. I’m proud to be in your company. My current two dogs, Mac and Lily, are helping me as I grieve for my husband. Their unconditional love and trust keep me going and their antics make me smile. I believe dogs are a gift from God.

  9. I’ve had many, many dogs in my life (3 right now). What I have learned, and others here have pointed out, is that they show unconditional love.
    They’ll never remember your birthday.
They’ll never give you a Christmas gift.
They’ll never even send you a card.
They’ll never say “I love you”.
Yet you KNOW that that dog loves you.
    Here is a clip I really like;

  10. My little 4 month old, 5lb dachshund is the sweetest little shit. He’s a ball of energy that I’ve never witnessed with the breed. Super smart, he’s only been with us 2 months, it seems like he’s been here the past decade. The tail always gets me!
