I have had the same experience with Samsung Galaxies, every time it gets close to the 2-year renewal it starts to crash which leads to my getting a new one. Brilliant. I have had it so bad that my top-of-the-line phone, less than 2 years old, crashes when I simply click on a text notification. Very frustrating.
I suppose I don’t try others because I expect the same result.

I’ve got a three year old Motorola Moto e4. Nothing fancy. Paid $49 for it thru my provider. Biggest thing I discovered is to uninstall or disable all the imbedded apps.(facebooks the first) All the sites I read are simply saved to my homescreen. It’s usually all the apps running in the background all the time that botches things up. And I turnoff all the permissions I can for the built in apps that come on the phone. My phone may not have all the bells and whistles the higher priced ones do but if I lose or break it I’m only out $49. Everybody I know that has problems on their phones have ridiculous amounts of apps on them. Read the permissions on apps before you install them. Its ridiculous.

Many/most phone companies won’t sell you a plan without data. They make more money off that than phone calls.

I liked cell’ ‘phones when they were just cell’ ‘phones.
Well, that’s not quite accurate. If I was forced to have a cell’ ‘phone for work I’d rather it just be a mobile ‘phone.
I was a telco dude my entire career. I could stop at any pedestal, SAC box, or pay-station and do what I needed to do.
Except that time on 695 I had a flat and broke off three studs.
In that case my pager didn’t help me much. And being 15 miles from anywhere was a bit anxiety inducing.
The Mobile industry these days is focusing on some generational thing I don’t give a fuck about. I use maps — you know, made of paper. I also use GPSs.
The rest of this crap doesn’t make my life any easier. If anything it makes me 100% accessible. Which is something I abhor.
