Known more for his charitable work through his non-profit Samaritan’s Purse than his words, Reverend Franklin Graham tells Evangelicals that in this election “you have to vote.”
“You may have to hold your nose, you may have to decide which is the least heathen of the two heathen.”
He doesn’t endorse any candidate but instead directs Christians to listen to God when casting their ballots.
To not vote at all is to leave the battle field to the secular progressives.
Evangelicals are creepy. I had one as a relative, scared the hell out of me more than once. Jumps up from the table while we were saying grace. Starts
screaming about God.
My father is a minister and he thought he was a nut job. He would say your scaring the kids sit down.
He will be in Little Rock April 12. He’s hitting every state in his Decision America tour.
He’s starting to look and sound a lot like his dad — a man that I trust.
JS – So you judge a whole group of people (evangelicals) by the actions of a single person? I knew a person once with the initials J.S. and he was extremely creepy, stupid and combative no matter the situation. Should people judge you as being that way simply because you have the same initials?
Evangelical^^^^^^^^^^
JS- I’m not sure what your point was if you had one with that post. If grammar / spelling. was your point, you might want to look at your own post before chiding others. It’s “you’re” instead of “your” scaring the kids. Otherwise, I have no idea what you mean by Evangelical^^^^^^^^^.
I grew up in the Bible Belt. My father would speak at different churches. I’ve probably been to 150 churches. It’s just what I saw as a young person.
I’ve been to all kinds of services and revivals. Met 100’s of Evangelicals.
My fathers idea of a vacation was go find another church to go to for services.
I would guess I’ve been to most southern states and to at least 5 churches in that state.
And I was wrong to give my opinion of Evangelicals.
I’m not trying to bash evangelicals, they at least believe in God.
My father was going to write a book about being a minister but died before
he could finish it.
I guess I will be praying the rest of the night. But not yelling to God.
JS – “Religion” has been twisted in many ways over the years. My own circumstances led me to study the Bible in depth in the last few years. I consider myself a Christian these days rather than any denomination. Mankind is flawed as YHVH told us many times in His word. I’m honestly not trying to argue with you – I just recognize that all “Evangelicals” are not the same. Most of the preaching I heard growing up wasn’t what it was cracked up to be..
JS – Some Evangelicals might well be nut jobs, but most of those considered as such were nut jobs beforehand (just like any other generic “group”). Whatever label we apply to ourselves, I think Christians need to try to apply the principles Chris taught us overall (and that doesn’t include giving our money to govt. to “redistribute” as it sees fit.
I forgot the golden rule….don’t talk about religion
My bad
Chris = Christ in above post. I grew up in a rural Baptist church but found in later years that none of the denominations quite suited me. I eventually determined the reason was that none of them were actually teaching me the Bible as written. I’ve tried, and I can’t find any “untruth” in the Bible as I’ve studied it in the various languages and translations – only “man’s” teaching of the Bible has been flawed from my experience.
JS – Talking about it is how we learn. There’s no bad in talking “religion” – only bad in how we respond to such talk. I consider myself an “Evangelical” in the sense that I want to spread the “good news” (Gospel of Christ). But Christ also told the apostles to “kick the dirt off their feet and go on down the road” if people didn’t want to hear it. i think all of us are better off living it as an example than telling others how great it is (no example myself).
Shame on me for forgetting the reference in scripture. But there was an event where the only 2 choices, in this event was evil, or more evil. Graham is aimply stating that if we’re in such a situation, to pick the lesser-but PICK.
We’ve been holding our noses since 1988.
2) If you gotta tell your flock who to vote for, they’re not much of a flock, brain-wise, are they. Ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-aaaa.
I consider myself a born again, evangelical Christian.
Admittedly, I have experienced a very few Evangelists who preach the Word of God incessantly no matter where they are. I might add they were also the ones whose Faith were great and their command and insight of the Bible impeccable. They knew the Word, Lived the Word and interpreted the Word for others who had not spent years combing through the Greek and Jewish texts.
They were led to give up all worldly riches & goods to travel the world spreading the Gospel in Africa, India, the middle east and the orient. At times under threat, bodily harm and deportation for even mentioning Christ.
Committed? Yes Scary? No.
Yes, there were several times in long conversation and teachings that my mind could only absorb what my seat could endure. It is also true that many deny and condemn that which they know little or nothing about.
I haven’t listened much to Franklin, but if he’s even half the evangelical that his father Billy was, then Franklin is a voice to be listened to with respect.
“You may have to hold your nose, you may have to decide which is the least heathen of the two heathen.”
No Mr. Graham I won’t hold me nose this time. Just who in the hell do you think you are judging who is a heathen and who isn’t. How about that Jimmy Swaggert, The Bakers, Rev. Wright, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, they are worse heathens in your fold than any Repuiblican candidate. By their fruits you shall know them. Keep talking politics, they might take your tax status away telling people how to vote.
Bubba’s Brother (and any others interested) – check out Calvary Chapel – verse by verse teaching of the Bible – (here is one that Livestreams their services on Sundays calvarychapelnewberg.org)
Yet Trump can cast doubt on Romney’s Mormonism and it’s met with a collective ‘so what.’ I’m not watching candidates, I’m watching their supporters. It’s very instructive.
Grool, don’t be such a tool. Trump did no such thing, but headlines told you what to think and you dont disappoint 😉
Help me out. What in the heck is the current definition of an EVANGELICAL ? … . It seems as amorphous as saying you are a republican.
CATO has a pretty good picture painted there , but only for those who know what he’s talking about, i.e. they have read the scriptures. Most people have not.
Bubba’s Brother is using the terminology in the way I’ve understood it, since evangel means telling the good news.
Evangel definition: the good tidings of the redemption of the world through Jesus Christ; the gospel.
If we have a firm definition we could actually have a conversation. So far I don’t see one. It sounds like this readership MOSTLY thinks an evangelical is an annoying tv preacher. Am I right ?
Rather, it is just any old person who believes in Christ/redeemer and shares that with another person… My definition.
Mo3,
The term has been meaningless for a long time. Prots, Catholics and Mormons have had shindigs together under the big Evangelical umbrella. Just a sign of the times.
Corona, since we’ve “been holding our noses since 1988” I suggest it’s time to try the pagan.

Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary of American English
CHRISTIAN: Mark 16:15 And he said to them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
