The beloved star with several acting credits — including “Best in Show,” “This is Spinal Tap” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” — died of natural causes, his daughter confirmed to Fox News.

“My father passed away very peacefully last night at the fantastic age of 86 years old. He kept moving, working and making us happy until the very end. We loved him so very much!” his daughter Hope Mulbarger told Fox News in a statement on Saturday. “We will miss him forever.”

  4. I liked him as a comedian. I don’t know anything else about him.

    I think it was he that told a good nostril joke on TV many years ago.

    Fred: which of your nostrils is better looking?

    Other person: How do I tell?

    Fred: look at yourself in a mirror, then go ahead and pick a nostril.

  5. He was nabbed in a routine harassment of a theater by cops. He just picked the wrong time and place.

  12. Fernwood Tonight is still one of my favorite show … & why they don’t put it out in DVD is a mystery to me
    (it was actually a spin-off from Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman

    Willard was fantastic on that show, w/ his deadpan cluelessness when Mull insulted him relentlessly

    R.I.P. Fred … you gave me a lot of laughs

  16. As an actor he was fine. He did not irritate me with very stupid characters and I really do not know anything about his politics which is what makes me like like him.

    There are far too many actors and singers that I can no longer watch because of TDS and ridiculously leftist opinions, while they send their money to offshore accounts, to avoid the higher taxes they advocate for.

    He was one of the greatest straight men of all time.
    And he never got any respect.
    I laugh every time I recall his comedy characters.
    I thankfully missed viewing the horror shows.

  21. The Christopher Guest films (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, etc.) were, at best, loosley scripted. Most of the main actors, including Fred Willard, cut their teeth in improv and their characters where placed into positions where they could improvise.

    I always thought Willard was an underrated comedian for much of his early career. For reasons I can’t explain, his turn as a clueless color commentator at a dog show was one of the funniest things I had seen in a long time.

  23. Fernwood Tonight? Wow, I have not thought about that since like NOW, that was in 1977???! Great show, like ‘Soap’ of the same exact time.
