Friends of Animals Sues Fish And Wildlife Service Over Change in Duck Stamp Painting Contest Rules

Friends of Animals

Friends of Animals has filed a lawsuit in Connecticut district court against U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for its new rule that went into effect in May making hunting imagery a mandatory part of the federal Duck Stamp Contest.

Wildlife artists annually vie for the prestige of seeing their art grace each new Duck Stamp, which waterfowl hunters 16 years of age or older are required by law to purchase and carry with their general hunting license. Here

This year’s winner incorporated a lost duck call in his portrait of a lesser scaup. Here

  1. This is definitely an issue that requires the filing of a legal action.

I live in a world populated and acquiescent of morons.

Why can’t we preemptively drown these people in the used oil vats behind restaurants?

  2. I have always admired the talent and effort that was put into the duck stamp art over the years. I have to admit adding this requirement was unnecessary, and seeing spent shot shells floating next to a beautiful swimming duck is a disappointment. It does look like litter.
(I am a hunter and have been doing it for 1/2 a century)

There is big money in used restaurant oil.
A family i know got quite rich collecting it and incorporating it into cattle and other farm animal feed.
They were Mormons, not the strict kind,i used to ski with the eldest son and one day he invited me to come up and ski with him at a private resort they belonged to.
Used restaurant oil is not to be trivialized.

  4. Back in 1975 Illinois started requiring the duck stamp as they all got on the band wagon with those and many other iterations for other fish and game. Then in 2010 they stopped printing them and you just got it noted on the license.

What do you give a son who has already far exceeded anything you’ve ever accomplished career wise and also didn’t get as much financial support for lack of funds on your part?

Framed collection of all the duck stamps issued (IL). Also have many of the federal going back all the way to the beginning, but gaps in that one. Never stopped buying them although it’s been a number of years since I supplied the water fowl for Thanksgiving.
